I ordered some over the internet which were about $35 + delivery for 50 cards with envelopes. I think the place was called Vista print... They had a range of designs you could add a photo too or you can upload your own design. I'm wrapped with how they turned out.
a site called snapfish does stuff like this too. it's owned by Hewlett Packard and i've used i to create family and wedding albums as gifts. not sure on prices.
If you type photo birth announcements into your web browser there are a whole heap of different sites that you can upload photos to and make a card using your photos. They usually cost about $1 per card with an envelope but depending on how big your order is they can be cheaper.
I have used both Vista print and Snapfish (as mentioned by other posters) - Snapfish do their prints up on photo paper and they are glossy or matte like a photograph. Vista are more cardboard like but I was still really impressed with how they turned out.
I have also done announcement cards by visiting one of the places locally that sell wedding invitation stuff - they have a huge range of stuff if you are really crafty and want to make your own BA cards and also have ways of including photos. The people that run these shops can be really helpful to helping you pick something out. Depending on what you put into them (paper, cardboard, ribbon and other embellishments) these can be far more expensive and very time consuming but the results can be absolutely beautiful.
Or as others have suggested, you don't have to make them yourself and there will be people with all the equipment who can do it for you (sorry, I am unsure of what Marlene does exactly, but I would think it was something like this).
Otherwise, lots of the places in shops where you can buy invitation packs that you fill out also sell BA cards and some of them also have places to insert a photo. It is the same deal as the invitations where you fill in the details by hand. These cost about $20 for a pack of 10 to 12 cards approx.
i had these done up by as friend - she emailed me the file and got them printed locally to get them early. had pics, a messagew and her birth details (time, date, weight etc). i love them!
have scoped out marlene's website - some gorgeous stuff on there!
