Were you induced a second time - how was it?

I was induced with my first pregnancy due to being 9 days overdue and very little fluid left around DD. I wouldnt change anything about my labour including the induction, yes it hurt yes I had an epidural but I still managed to push her out in 3 pushes, so induction does not bother me, but I wondered what it would be like being induced a second time - was it the same as the first time for you?

no, obviously i havent. But just wanted to say... every induction, every baby and every birth is different. Just because it went smothly the first time, doesnt mean it will the second time. Even when you get replies saying it was the same as the first etc... doesnt mean it will be for you

I was induced with #1 and #3. They were completely different, #3 was VERY fast and quite scary- he was born 3 1/2 hrs after the drip was put in and was very bruised from the speed of it all. He was born at 37 wks 3 days whereas DD1 was at 40 wks and took 9 hours of intense labour and ended up being forceps so I had 2 totally different induction experiences with a natural birth in between.

Are you only considering induction for if you go overdue again?
I know alot, & I mean alot of women who've had both induced & natural labours, & every single one says they would never be induced again. Natural is far easier on them & their body. I understand for the safety of the baby, it was necessary for you, but I think if you can, you should try it naturally You can go up to 14 days past dates. A friend of mine went 16 days past.

I've had four inductions, and they were all really easy, but definitely got easier each time. The first one was at 38 weeks due to pre-e (which probably wasn't really, but, that's a long story), and I laboured for about six hours. It was quite painful but that was on an unripe cervix and I wasn't well prepared or supported. With #2, I was two weeks over with a baby with an unstable lie. The induction started with a PROM and then the drip, and labour all up was about four hours. It was much, much easier, and I was so surprised when it was all over. #3 was amazing - just about pain free until just before the end. (That was an induction at 39 weeks for non-medical reasons.) I had #4 spontaneously, but #5 was induced at 39 weeks and again was a really easy, amulatory labour with a fast delivery at the end. Four hours all up, I think.

The trick I found with my inductions was working to keep them as "natural" as possible - moving around, getting them to increase the synto slowly, etc. Being ready definitely made it easier.

Ironically, my most painful labour was the one with dd#4 - a spontaneous labour! (#6 was pretty much pain free too, that was spontaneous.)

Thanks girls, I know many wont agree with this, but I have been considering asking for an elective induction with this baby due to being 1 hour from our hospital and being able to be more prepared I guess.

I was induced all 3 times. The 2nd was a lot more intense and quicker than the 1st. The 3rd was by far the easiest.

My second induction was easy peasy. From ARM and drip to birth was 90min! I think I coped far better second time round because I knew what was going on and trusted my body and my mind alot more.

Just I advise not to have high expectations that everythings going to go as smoothly the next time thats all. Ok im speaking from a traumatic inducing background so this subject is a little touchy for me. Im sorry if it came across to forward, Im just encouraging you to know the risks before taking the leap.

My second induction was a nightmare!! I had myself prepared for another fairly easy (although very painful due to synto) birth, but the second was terrible. Bubs turned posterior, got stuck and ended up an emergency forceps delivery in theatre. Took a long time to recover and the pain was unbelievable. Hopefully this won't happen to you but I guess it goes to show that you never know what will happen next time!! Best of luck xx

I didnt intend that comment to you to come across as you judging my decision. I know the risks involved I have done it before and just like my last birth i went in with no expectations, I hardly call my last experience smooth, yes everything went relatively well, but she wasnt breathing when she came out and took 4 minutes to do so - I dont call that smooth. Thanks for your honest reply thats what I am after and thanks to everyone else for sharing - I dont expect my labour to be the same as anyone elses I was just interested in hearing peoples personal stories.

That was the reason I went for an induction with #3 - I have a very fast second stage that comes out of nowhere, and I jsut didn't want to get caught on the side of the road. We lived a couple of hours from the hospital. I am so glad that I did it that way - it was a really relaxed labour, I was well and truly ready, and by the time I knew we were getting near things happening, she was born a couple of minutes later! My feelings were, I had tolerated inductions well in the past so I felt equipped to tolerate one well again.

i have been induced twice and the second time was a lot easier. the first induction involved the drip whereas with the second one i only needed the gel, so this made it much less painful.
