I had both my boys there. You definitely do not need to take your own nappies. They should give you a list of what you need at your pre-admission appointment.
One thing to keep in mind about the Wesley is that they are not particularly bfing friendly. If you are having any problems you would be best off getting a private Lactation Consultant or seeking help from the ABA rather than the Wesley staff. I think it helps to know this up front - I didn't and had all sorts of problems. I was lucky I found the help I needed after I went home.
it's not that they "won't" help you, so much as they are unable to. The staff really weren't trained in it, and gave me bad and conflicting advice. It was only later that I found out the hossy has a reputation as not being good for bfing - and one of the people who told me this used to work there as midwife.
I think that this doesn't necessarily need to be a problem, so long as you know about it. If you don't have problems bfing, then it's all good. If you do, and they don't seem to be helping much, or what they say doesn't seem right to you, know that it's ok to seek help elsewhere. I would take the ABA helpline number with you to hossy just in case. You might even like to join the ABA and meet your local counsellors before you give birth.
I had DS at the Wesley. I thought it was fantastic - will be having #2 there for sure. DS was born at 35wsk1d and spent 1 week in SCN. They were extremely supportive of by desire to BF right from the start and the nurses in the SCN were just wonderful. Having said that I think I got some extra special attention and TLC because DS was in the SCN and we had no problems BF right from the start. I only had 1 midwife during my stay that was awful and while she was on I just hung out in the SCN so I didn't have to deal with her.
