    What is EPO?

Is it Evening Primrose Oil? I went into chemist today to get some and asked for EPO tablets which they found. Then I asked how many I take because there was nothing mentioned re pregnancy and labour on the bottle and the pharmacist came out and when I told her what I believed they were used for (thinning the cervix, can be taken orally and inserted vaginally) she looked at me like I was a nutcase and said she has never heard of using it for anything to do with labour, and that I should consult my Dr 1st.

    So, a little confused

I too had heard about Evening Primrose oil being good during pregnancy but was not sure of its true benefits. When i was in a health store i asked about it and was given a blank expression. On saturday, at an antenatal class i asked the midwife about it (after someone asked about raspberry tea leaf) and she too couldn't tell me the benefits. (neither could any of the other 15 woman in the group) Maybe she/they didn't know? I did'nt help u much did i? I guess what i was trying to say is..if it were that good wouldnt more people know about its benefits?

I used EPO internally once i had gone over my due date with Bodhi & also took some orally. I believe it did help.
I don't know why more ppl don't know about it

hmm, I guess I am a bit hesitatant to take anything that a lot of health professionals don't even seem to know about. I have a 36 week appointment on thursday, so will ask my Dr. about it then.

Generally most Dr's will know nothing of it. Or just think of it as a load of BS. Even the midwives at my local hospital knew nothing of it and when my gf told her Ob she was using it he freaked and called the girls in labour and delivery to see if they knew anything of it. They thought she was mad and wanted to book her in ASAP for an induction.

The shame of it all is, is that EPO can and does help. It is very beneficial. And there will always be someone out there ready to hit you over the head for having "alternative" views. Thinking that sex is the only thing you can do to help your cervix. Obviously that was a mans thinking. (no disputing that it helps though )

Do your research, there is plenty of info online. Arm yourself with it, so when you get the negative views you are informed and have the power to stand up to a reasonable arguement.

I still think I will pass. Call me old fashioned, but when it comes to things like medication I think I would just prefer to trust my Dr and medical profession, makes me and bubs feel safer.

Thanks for the info though Trish
