what happens if you have a cough/cold/sore throat when in labour?

    Hi,

I am about to go into labour anyday (well I think I am, but guess it could still be a few weeks)

My DD had a gastro bug that lasted all last week and I was panicked about catching it, but hubby and i were lucky and were fine. Then today my DD wakes up with a chesty cough and sore throat - SERIOUSLY WHY NOW???? She has been healthy for months!

So my question is what happens if I am in labour while being sick? I reckon labour is hard enough and exhausting without being sick - and what about the baby will he get sick since I may give birth with all the germs in my system?

I know I am pre-empting getting sick and may not happen, but am very worried and already feeling like a sore throat may be coming on (but maybe its me imagining it?)

I had a shocking blocked nose when I was due to be induced. It did make it a little harder, but I just mentally put it aside and kept going.

I'm not sure about the germs question, but I suspect that your little one is all protected from bad stuff in your belly. However when they come out is another matter.

    Good luck with it all.

I'm curious about this as well; mainly because I'm currently trying to get over a sinus infection/cough thing and I'm about 35+4 atm and have no idea when labour is likely to occur with this one (DS was born at 38wks). Having lots of sneezing and nose gunk (so attractive I know) and have been for the past week and not sure when it's going to ease up, especially given all I can really take us panadol and butter menthols for the slightly sore throat and fess spray to help clean everything out.

I have woken up this morning with the viral infection my son has and am due Sunday, I think baby is waiting for him to be better to come because labour started on Thursday morning and then stopped after 4 hours. He sounds terrible So I am hoping mine doesn't get that bad.
But unfortunately he always gets sick on special occasions, he always has a temp and vomits, our wedding, my sisters engagement, so I am thinking the fact that he is sick when he hasn't been in months must be a sign that she is on her way.
