    Talking Arrival of baby #4

Sunday 28th April is where my birth story begins. DF had taken the kids out for the day with a friend and her son, so I could rest and sleep. I got up around 1pm to make lunch. I was standing in the kitchen and felt wet, got some paper towel and wiped myself dry. A minute later it happened again. I rang DF to say I think im leaking and he came home. I called the hospital and they said to pop a pad on and call in 30 minutes. Walking to the ensuite, the leaking started running down my leg, i made a quick dash, only just making it to the loo when a huge pop and splash hit! I called the hospital again and they asked me to come in. Our friend offered to take the kids to her place. Before they left i kissed them all goodbye and began crying whilst holding DD1. They had no idea what was going on other then mummy needed baby to be checked and i was off to hospital. Once the kids left we went in for monitoring. The midwife checked my pad and confirmed it was my waters and they were clear. GBS swab was taken. The midwife said she would book an induction for Wednesday 1st May @7am. DF pushed for earlier and we were placed on the emergency list and induction for Tuesday 30th @12pm was booked instead. We went home to ponder the next few days. The kids were staying at our friends for the night (they had begged for a sleepover all day apparently, so thought they had won)!

I woke Monday morning to gush after gush of waters. Went to hospital for more monitoring, bub was happy and moving around, her heartbeat was steady and no problems were showing. My GBS had also came back negative, meaning I wouldn't need antibiotics. Back home again and I was having contractions on and off. I tried sleeping as much as possible. Tears galore flowed all day. DF cooked me dinner and it took ages to eat as i had to keep stopping to cry and focus on contractions. Around 10pm we went to bed. A friend on Facebook was messaging me, answering questions I had and I was updating her on my thoughts and (lack of) progress, saying my body was failing me. Finally I was in a better mental state, I knew by the next day I'd be holding our little girl. I then cried myself to sleep, scared of the induction. About midnight I was woken by ouchy pains. I began timing and found they were coming every 3-8 minutes and lasting over 60 seconds. I woke DF at 1am as I wasn't coping. He called the hospital and due to my last labour being only 3.5 hours, they wanted me in ASAP.

Around 2am we arrived and admitted straight away. DF called my student midwife. I really wasn't coping and demanded they get her out immediately and while they were at it, give me every drug under the sun. The midwife was yabbering on about stuff and I was getting more and more frustrated. I also had a student doctor who was useless at everything, but at least rubbed my back when DF was doing something else. At some point my midwife arrived. It was great to see her face. About 3am I was really not coping and they gave me the gas. I also needed to have a cannula put in so they could give me antibiotics due to PROM. First attempt into my hand failed, the midwife tried again and it failed, it hurt and I was screaming, sucking on the gas done nothing. They tried my other hand and, again it failed. An anesthetist was called and she couldn't do it either, so it went into my arm instead.

Around 4am I asked for a VE. It hurt and i kept asking for it to stop. I was told they were nearly done. I was only 6cm but bubs head was sitting nice and low with a small amount of cervix lip to go. I began losing focus and started demanding to know how much longer it would be. My student midwife quickly said 45 minutes and your baby will be here, I asked what the time was then. Contractions were coming harder and painful, I sucked harder and harder....and the vomiting began, I filled 2 vomit bags. At 445 I asked the time again and remember thinking 'oh good, only 15 minutes to go now'. I never got the urge to push but figured if I wanted this baby out, I'd just have to do it regardless. They kept saying I had to lay on my back, I was on my right side as it was the only way I could lay, but it hurt so much to move. Finally I flipped over. I pushed and pushed. Next moment I said to the midwife 'I think I just ***** myself' to which everyone laughed and said No, you just delivered your baby!! Never felt her crown or anything, she just came out in one push. So 53 minutes after being told my baby would be here in 45 minutes.... She arrived!

A full checked revealed I lost 200ml of blood and no tears or grazes. My first birth I avoided stitches!!!! 4th time lucky

Due to PROM and not getting 2 lots of antibiotics before birth, Miss A got an infection which placed her in SCN. She got very sick and fast. She was placed on 5 day antibiotics, numerous blood tests daily, IV line in her hand which had to be changed 3 times due to them leaking. Her blood cultures grew a growth which lead to her needing a lumber puncture, thankfully everything was negative.

We were finally able to go home on day 6, Monday 6th May.
