    The arrival of Emily Jane

    Due 18th November

    19th November
Last Uni exam for the year! And it was biology, the one I had been stressing about the most! Please hang in Spud and let me get this exam over and done with.
A few odd pains here and there but nothing major.
11am.... EXAM COMPLETE and UNI FINISHED for the year!!! WOOHOOOOOO
Off to lunch with the girls to celebrate.
Got home a fair bit later..... sat down on the couch and DH says "your bored already aren’t you?" hahahaha he knows me all too well! Yep I was bored. However I kept hearing everyone say the minute you sit down and relax will be the minute you go into labour!
Little did I know how true that was.
    20th November
Woke up after a great night sleep! And was looking forward to a day of Christmas shopping! So got Miss B ready and DH ready, about to head out the door and ops I’m busting... better got to the toilet 1st and what do I see?????? Eeeekkkkk Blood and a fair bit of it! This is 0830am.
So out I go to DH and say "hmmmm I think I might have to call the hospital, I'm bleeding"
DH asks "let me see" hahahaha is he serious??? Yep he is! So down with my undies while DH investigates! And then agrees yep call the hospital!
While I’m on the phone to the hospital DH has gotten out my midwifery text books and starts reading up! I told him early on that when things start to happen I’m the patient not the midwifery student so don't ask me questions! LOL
The hospital says to lie down, make sure spud is moving and call back in 1hr!
So I do as I’m told and yep heaps of movements, and the odd pain or two but nothing major! So I ring the hospital and they said just to keep an eye on things - but the sounds of it I have had my "show" and things could happen soon or they could take a few days!
Phew thank goodness for that cause I want to go shopping!!!!!!!!!!!
    So off we all go.
At the shops the pains get worse. Some of them I’m doubled over with and DH keeps laughing and asking if I want to go home but nope I’m determined! And then BANG a bad pain I think we better head home! Don’t want to have a baby in the shops!
At home I’m lying down on the couch having a rest and Spud is moving around like crazy, something tells me I should be enjoying this and savouring the movements because I will be feeling them for the last time! But silly I didn't listen! Instead I complain when Spud got the hiccups and decided hmmm I might sit on the fit ball, and try and get things moving!

Fit ball - not good - really hurts! So off I get and hit DH to go for a walk with me. So off DH, Miss B and I go again! But every couple of steps I’m stopping with pains. DH has taken his watch and pen and paper and is writing everything down! How cute is he!
Get home and notice I’m bleeding some more and the pains are becoming quite unbearable so we ring the hospital and are told to head on in!
So the grandparents are called and I head into the shower to try and ease the pain!
    It was pure heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5pm the grandparents arrive to look after Miss B, and off we go to the hospital!

    The trip into hospital

All I can remember was it was absolutely painful with contraction after contraction and me yelling at DH to take it easy around corner, to pull over during contractions (which he didn't) and to stop speeding (which he wasn’t).

    At hospital
I arrive and have a VE done and I’m only 2-3cms but very thin and stretchy!!! ONLY 2-3!!!! So I try walking but I can't, than I hop into the shower and this is where I stay for most of it, the shower was nice and helped a fair bit but at some stage (can’t remember when) I agreed to having gas! I was determined to have a drug free labour this time round but nope couldn’t do it!
Last time the gas made me sick, but we figured they had it turned up too high, so we had it on a low setting which was much better! While I was swaying back and forth, around and around in the shower hanging on to the bars, DH held the mouth piece for me and knew when he got the look to put it in my mouth!
After awhile in the shower the pain started to get worse and I was finding it rather unbearable having to move around in the shower to get the stream on my back and belly where I needed it! I commented they needed showers with a few shower heads facing in different directions. Apparently I also commented that the gas needed to be caramel flavoured! I ended u p asking for an Epi  so they ring the drug man
The midwife suggested they do another VE see if things had progressed and that they might break my waters as they hadn’t broken yet. I agreed to a check but wanted to than discuss an ARM afterwards depending on the outcome of the VE. In comes the OB (not my OB as it wasn’t her weekend) and he sits on the end of the bed and I notice he has the hook to break my waters. I got quite upset as I wanted to discuss things before hand but in he goes does a VE and ruptures my membranes! It’s not until I think about it today but this actually upsets me, I kind of feel a bit violated as it wasn’t what I wanted. He never even told me how far I had progressed but said I hadn’t progressed enough!
Not long after the ARM the Epi man arrives! After the Epi is placed I have this major urge to push and am feeling ALOT of pressure in my bottom. So another VE is done and GUESS WHAT??????????? I’m fully dilated and its time to push!
Noooooo this can’t be happening, the Epi hasn’t even taken affect! So at 2100 the pushing starts (I believe the epi was stopped as it never kicked in???? I felt everything).
2132 Miss Emily Jane arrives in the world. Weighing a nice 8pd oz and 51cm long and head 34cm!
And then the shock hits!! I have had another GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Apparently I apologise to DH but he is already smitten!
Once again I had another 2nd degree tear, and needed a local to numb the area after the OB started stitching and I almost kicked him. His comment “oh can you feel that”
But all in all I was pretty happy with how things went, and absolutely love being a mummy of 2 Beautiful girls!!!!
