    The birth of Hattie Anne

Just a history my first birth (16months prior) was 5 hrs after being induced with synto because I came in with SROM but labour didn't start I spent the whole labour on my back and used gas, pethidine and tens machine, I had 3rd degree tearing and got an infection on day 4 pp this coupled with ds being excessively sleepy from the pethidine being given too close o birth meant I was unable to bf him

My main goal for this birth was to do it completely drug free and I wanted to be more mobile and birth in whatever position I chose

at 39+1 I went to my obstetrician appointment dd was 3/5 engaged my cervix was soft but apparently not about to go into labour anytime soon, she then did a stretch and sweep
DH and I decided to go down to the beach and have some fish n chips and go for a nice long walk to help get things going and to wear out DS, I started getting tightenings about 10mins apart lasting 40 seconds that weren't Bh but also weren't painful 3hrs later they were 5mins apart and still not painfull I was sitting in front of the tellie bouncing on my ball and then they stopped so I decided to go to bed and rest up in case anything did start

39+2 DH decided to take the day off because he felt I was going to go into labour that day I thought he was being silly but appreciated the help with ds.
Around about lunchtime we went to hungry jacks for lunch and I started getting tightenings again about 10 mins apart lasting 40 seconds and not painful I thought it would just be a repeat of the day before and would eventually end
we walked around bunnings after that and they started getting a bit closer and eventually when I got home at 2 were 5mins apart lasting 40 seconds and stayed between 5-8 mins apart I was back and forth continuously peeing and feeling I needed to poo but no luck with that
I got back to the loungeroom and all of a sudden I started feeling anxious and needed to pace but the tightenings were still not painful or stronger, longer or closer than 5-8mins but I decided to call the midwife anyway just to ask when I should come in because we still needed to drop off ds , She said to come in and get checked out so we dropped off ds and drove in still not painful or progressing

6pm we got to the hospital they still weren't painful but I had to stop and breath

630 we were checked in I put on the tens machine (best thing ever) because they were starting to hurt and the midwife did a VE and said I was 6cm! couple mins later the Ob came in I had a few sharp contractions sat on the fitball for 5 mins and then tried standing leaning and rocking
645 contractions became very ouchy and I started screaming - as soon as I started screaming a few middys ran in and my midywife told them not to worryand then turned to me and said they aren't used to drug free labours (The hospital has a 50% cesar rate - eek)
650 I said I could feel dd in my bum but wasn't getting an urge to push but still getting contractions I hopped up onto bed and ob broke my waters I then rolled over onto my knees and started pushing dd but was hesistating as I hadn't anticipated how much more painful it would be without drugs eventually with my middy and ob cheering me on and reminding me to breath and put my energy into pushing and to comit to it I finally started trying my hardest and dd started coming round the bend I can remember it so vividly dd was moving inside me and I could feel her moving her mouth and face inside the birth canal it felt so wrong her head popped out and the ob said she was "talking" and moving her mouth
6.58pm Hadassah (Hattie) Anne was born 3.5kg 53cm

no tears but I had a few variscosities stitched and I only had about 10 painful contractions all up the rest were painless contractions yay for second labours
DD came out with a perfect head and not at all moulded which id say is why she felt like a bowling ball coming through

I would definitely recommend a drug free birth the rewards are great for you and baby
And I have been able to breastfeed!
