Talking The Birth Of Oscar Slaide (6months late and LONG)

ok here we go. its almost 6 months late but better late then never
Here is the birth story of the love of my life.

12 days before my EDD, i woke up feeling a little wet. I went to the bathroom to check but nothing was there and nothing more came out so i figured it must of been sweat, discharge or my show.
I was having mild contrations for a few days prior but they never really got to painful they would stay as close to 5mins apart for a couple of hours but then fizzle out.
It was friday the 4th of september and Sam (DP) was supposed to work so thinking it would just be another fizz as i still wasnt due for 11 days i sent him to work and firmly told him to keep his phone close by, So that day i had a few bits and peices to orginize before bub comes so just went on as a normal day went to the shops, came home cleaned the house.finished folding bubs clothes and finalized my hospital bag.

That night we were due over for dinner at sam's parents house, for his nannas bday dinner. During dinner i remember feeling some pretty good contractions. Then i noticed when we got home from MIL and FIL's house i was still having very strong contractions, i went to the bathroom to have a shower and get ready for bed only to notice alot of my bloody show, it was about 9pm when i jumped in the shower where my contractions started to become more intense and alot closer together. I tried to lie down and get some sleep that night but contractions kept waking me they were about 4-5mins apart by this time but i still wasnt to fussed about 11pm i woke Sam up to tell him and about midnight Sam had finally convinced me we needed to go to the hospital. He was determained not to deliver this baby himself. I was still in denial as i had, had this feeling several times prior.
To make him happy i called the hospital told them the story they laughed and told me to come on in to be checked out, we made it to the hospital about 12.20am saturday 5th September 2009. On arrival i was already 4cm dialated, i was so happy i had progressed so quickly, so told sam to go call our parents and let them know.

My nurse was great after monitering me for a few minutes she let us walk around for a hour or so untill i needed to be monitered again, Megan my nurse was very respectful of my wishes to not have a epidural and never asked me if i wanted any pain meds throughout my labour. Instead what she did do was gave me options of different ways to labour. I started off with just general walking around and would sometimes sit on the chair and just rock. I then decided to try the birthing ball, The pain becam unbarable so both Sam and myself decided to jump in a warm shower hoping it would ease the pain a little i was one who always said i didnt want to be naked during the birth but within 5mins of getting in that shower with Sam i was asking him to take off my birthing top and he took off his top to, we decided to bring the birthing ball in the shower with us and this is where we would stay untill i felt i needed to push!

Megan had me sit on the ball and rock in a hula hoop motion during each contraction while i would drape my body over sam and move my hards and arms in a circular motion as well, the ball took away alot of the pressure and rocking helped me to divert my attention away from the contractions.
    My birthball was my lifesaver.
Megan stayed with us the whole time and was happy leaving me on the ball and just said that she would need to moniter the baby and me every hour or so by this time it was about 3.30am and we all had guesses on what time i would deliver, Megan guessed 4am, Sam guessed 4.15am and i just wanted it to be NOW!
Between contractions megan, sam and i made small talk and talked alot about our childhood. Megan was 27 and single and had a hard time believing i was only 21 birthing my first.
I was starting to get shakey and thought i might be transitioning so i had her check me at about 430am, to find i was only 6cm. Everytime i would get off the ball the contractions were unbarable, so i would immediatly get back on. During this time Megan dedided to leave Sam and i to birth a little on our own. Sam was great during contractions and would talk me through them encouraging me and reminding me to breathe properly. Sam was amazed that i was staying so focused. he felt like he wasn't doing enough so he was constantly getting me water and cooling me with a face cloth but really having him by my side to shovel my ice cubes was all i needed.

I continued to labour on the ball untill megan needed to check me again, it was now 7.30am and i was having trouble staying focused, i started getting very vocal during contractions and the my urge to push was coming on strong, so i had her check me! during this time i remember telling her i was just about ready to push! Megan ran and got my birthing team as soon as i hit 8cm and here i was ready to pus, megan told me to hold off with the pushing. YEAH RIGHT i couldnt resist the urge and my body unconsciously pushed a little with every contraction.
My room started to fill up with my birth team, sam said there was about 6people around by this time everyone said i would have DS out in a few constrations but he had other ideas, i began pushing when my Dr determained he was in posterior position he tried turning him everytime i pushed but couldnt get him to turn! i was starting to get really disscouraged and kept saying i couldnt do it i was utterly exhausted but everyone kept encouraging me to give it all that i got, so i took a deep breath and forced myself to push 3 more sets each contraction the harder i pushed ther more the DR could tell DS was trying to turn himself. He finally turned on his own at 7am my DR said it would only take 1 more contraction and he was right, i pushed him out with the very next contraction!
Weighing 3622grams and 52cms long my DR immediatly laid DS on my chest and i got to hold him close to me for a couple of minutes, sam cut the cord and started snapping pics. i had a 3rd degree tear, so after we were both cleaned up i got to start breastfeeding. approx 6hr later we had our 1st visitors who were immediate family only.
I couldnt believe it was all done and over. I had birthed my perfect little boy! the prince everyone had been waiting 9 months to meet was right in front of me! i couldnt stop looking at him. still after 6hrs of being born he was nameless but me and Sam both knew immediatly what we would be calling him

Congratulations on a wonderful birth!! When I read that the MW told you to move your hips in a hula hoop, I thought, he must be posterior because that's what my midwife told me to do with DD1! You must be so proud of your achievement - birthing your beautiful boy!! Well done! Thanks for sharing your story.
