Well i knew i was pregnant as soon as i conceived, yes i know it sounds strange but i got that metallic taste in my mouth and two weeks later the two lines appeared! When i told dh he looked at me smiled and came over and kissed my belly! (was just too sweet)
My first dr appt was a bit disheartening, i went in the week that af was late, dr did a test and it came back faintly positive, but here's the best part, he told me not to come back until i was 12 weeks as most first pregs are m/cs, well i was rather bummed out by that thought, let me tell you!
The first 6 weeks went by AOK, then it hit me, the all day morning sickness, i felt rotten from the moment i got up till i went to sleep at night, i was slightly lucky though as i only seemed to vomit at night, which meant that hiding it from work was alot easier than i had expected.
12 weeks - i went back to dr and i had lost over 5kgs.....nice weight loss but a terrible way to do it.
At 13 weeks i told work, and they were wonderful!
The dr was all happy with my progress and it was monthly appts after that, we had an u/s booked for 18 weeks, which went ok except that taylor was a bugger and she did not sit the right way for them to get pics of her heart and she had her legs & ankles firmly crossed so we didn't get to find out what she was & we went back the next week for another u/s and taylor behaved enough for them to get her heart pics, but she still had her legs crossed, so it was going to be a surpise as to her sex.
I as well had GTT at 28 weeks and had to do the 2 hour test which was also positive - YAY!
I was adamant that i was going to control the GD with diet and exercise and being in childcare and on my feet 10 hours a day made it all possible, i managed the GD great and the dr was happy (although i did have a few over 7.0 that he was not so happy about, but no insulin injections).
All went well until at about 34 weeks i got a cold / flu, which progressed into a sinus / chest infection and i coughed so much that i pulled a muscle in my chest - OUCH! By 38 weeks i was terribly sick, went back to my dr (as the clinic dr at hospital said i was fine) and he prescribed antibiotics and said that that was my last day at work as i also had elevated bp (i had planned to work until 39 weeks).... so i got to sit back and relax for the last 2 weeks (NOT), i had to go back into dr to check bp and it was again high, he sent me up to the hospital and i was monitored there for a couple of hours.
The next week was slow and i rested until the following weekend when i couldn't breathe, due to the pulled muscke, so back to hospital....where i stayed overnight.
OK week 40, i am sooooo ready to get this baby outta me it's not funny (i knew my dates were spot on but dr's at hospital said that scans show that you aren't due till next week - i said bull*****) anyways went in every second day to have bub monitored, they kept sending me home.....
I did the walking, i drank castor oil (YUK), had sex, bumpy car rides and nothing was shifting this stubborn bubba....well i had enough on the 6th aug went in and discussed induction, they couldn't do it then but advised to come back on the 9th (40 weeks + 3 days)......so here we go (the quickest part of the story!)
I got the gel at 9am and my cervix was 1cm dilated, so i had contractions throughout the day but no progress, took a sleeping atblet and had a great nights sleep, woke up in the morning and contractions had stopped - bugger!
More gel at 9am, not much happening so at 1pm dr came in and broke my waters and the protosin (sp) drip was inserted....well from whoa to go i can tell you.....
So i had the typical rush of strong, fast contractions being on the drip, i alternated between sitting / standing in the shower and sitting on the toilet, this went on for about 2 hours @ 4pm i was only 6cm dilated, somewhere during this time the midwife was a bit concerned about taylor's heart rate so i was booted outta the shower and they wanted me on the bed - in order to better monitor taylor, i so did not like that, the contractions were so much worse on the bed, they said here try the gas, which did not work at all, so i threw it back at the midwife, she again said here and i said "IT DOESN"T WORK!"
After another hour i was a full 10cm dilated so at 5pm the two midwives said ok you can push, so off the bed i went, dh was sitting behind me with me resting on his legs in a squat position, so push i did (i had to stop when her head came out as she had the cord wrapped around not only her neck but also an arm and a leg) and 25 mins later taylor was born, the first i saw of her she was looking up from the mat on the floor straight up at both dh & I!
However the downside of her coming so quick was that i had 2nd / 3rd degree tears (not that i really felt the rip)
taylor was born at exactly 5.25pm on Aug 10th 2006
she was 52.5 cm long, with a 36cm head circumference
