What a beautiful story Forgive me if I am being stupid as I don't have much clue about pregnancy/birth yet, but don't they do tests early on to check for DS? I am just wondering why they didn't know...

Tasha, not everyone chooses the screening. I've skipped it both times.

My friend has a DS baby and she had all the tests done and was told he was all ok. The tests only give a likelihood ie. 1 in 100 chance - but your baby could be that 1 in 100. The only way to be certain is for an amnio where they can actually genetically screen. If you are given a low chance though they won't get yoou to do the more invasive tests.

Oh ok, now I understand. It's so scary to think how challenging it would be to raise a DS child. Hat's off to the parents that are doing it, I just can't imagine how difficult it would be, let alone not knowing in the first place.

I remember reading that story when Trillian posted it. I cried and cried reading it then, and I did again now. Those photos . . . she is just the most incredibly beautiful baby.
