    Emily's speedy arrival

I was due on the 8th of April but like my first, I showed no sign of going into labour anytime soon on that date. I had a fall the previous week, injuring my pubic bone and started getting acupuncture to help with the pain. My acupuncturist offered to do some labour inducing points so I gladly accepted. I was expecting to be woken up one day with contractions as that is what happened with DS. On the 15th, I woke up disappointed that I wasn't in labour. I had arranged to be induced on the 16th but was holding out hope that DD would come on her own terms. Around 6pm, I posted on FB that there was no sign of the baby. At 7.15pm, I was sitting on the couch watching DH & DS play when I felt a sudden pop & gush. I said to DH "I think my waters have broken" & he quickly ran to get a towel. DS pointed and said "Weeee!" I didn't expect anything much to happen but decided to call my parents to come & get DS JIC. I didn't want to have to wake him in the middle of the night. I also called the hospital to let them know my waters had broken. My dad came & got DS straight away. About 20 minutes after my waters breaking, the contractions started. They were coming very quick & strong but I still thought it would be a while. Dad was concerned and asked if he would have to deliver the baby right there. I laughed him off thinking I had plenty of time. Once dad left, I called the hospital again to let them know that I was having contractions. Then I spent some time in the toilet. I needed to go but the contractions were coming so quickly I didn't have time to sit. I was getting a bit upset at this stage as I thought it would still be ages before the birth but the pain was becoming unbearable. I wanted a drug free labour and I couldn't see how I'd make it. I told DH I wanted to go to the hospital as it was too much. I called the hospital again & they agreed that I should come in. It was about a 20 minute drive to the hospital & we left straight away. It was about 8.45pm at this stage. During the trip, I can remember seeing red lights & begging DH silently to keep driving but didn't say it out loud because I didn't want to worry him. We were just a few minutes from the hospital when I couldn't stand sitting any longer & knelt in the seat facing the back. The hospital was closed so we had to wait for someone to come and open the doors for us. I couldn't even walk through the doors due to the contractions happening so quickly. The nurse went to get a wheelchair for me but I couldn't sit. I tried to walk holding the chair but I didn't get very far before I knew I was pushing. The nurse felt between my legs and went straight into action. At 9.25pm DD was born, just metres inside the entrance to the hospital with 10 nurses & midwives around me. I remember someone saying there’s the head and I said “NOOOOO!”. When her body came out, a nurse said “here HE comes”. I looked down expecting to see a penis and it took a couple moments to realise there wasn’t one. It was a girl! I had a tear that required stitches and went into shock, but I did get the drug-free birth I wanted, just not exactly how I pictured it. My feelings toward the birth were quite negative at first. I won’t go into it now but you can read about it here if you want. I’ve now recovered and can talk about it quite happily. Looking back, I think I was in transition before leaving home & I started pushing in the car but I was in denial.

Babe, I was just thinking the other day that I have never read your birth story - I also just read your additional post about how you feel about the birth (I don't get on here too much these days). I am glad that you did get your drug free birth and that you got your beautiful little girl. I am sorry you had a hard time afterwards with how you birthed, but am glad you are starting to feel better about how she came into the world. You are a very brave girl and you did very well.

On a side note you must have nearly died when she said "he".

Well done and congratulations on having your little girl xxx

What an experience! This could well have been my own story if I had attempted to get to a hospital! I just read your other thread too and will reply there, so I'm not hijacking this one

Congratulations, and I'm so glad you're feeling better about it all.
