    Eva Jazmin's birth - BekZ

    The Birth of Eva Jazmin

I usually get a few signs the day I go into labour and this day was no different.

I woke on Wednesday the 8th at 4am and couldn?t get back to sleep. (First sign)
My other girls were both born on the 9th of the month and I jokingly thought having this bub on the 9th kind of freaky.

For the past 48 hours I had been having increased BH but I honestly thought that I had at least another week to go. Although in hindsight I had spent the previous 48hours frantically getting ready and making my house spick and span. (Second sign)

So that day I dropped Sara off at daycare and proceeded off to the shops to do some last minute grocery shopping. Funnily enough every single shop assistant I dealt with made the comment that I must not have long to go!!! (Third sign). Whilst driving home I thought that all those comments were strange.

Around 4pm I went to the loo and low and behold a bloody show!!! OMG!!! Am I going to have a baby tonight. Panic and excitement set in. The BH started up again but nothing was regular until midnight. I got out of bed and decided to time the BH. With in an hour the BH were regular at 5 mins apart (I say BH because I was still in denial that labour was starting). Another hour and the BH were now contractions coming every 3 mins.

We called my MIL to come and watch the girls. She arrived 40 mins later and every thing had stopped. I still went to the hospital and still nothing until I got to the labour room!!!. By this time it was 2.30am and my contractions started to get ouchy but manageable. The mid gave me an internal and I was only 4cm dilated but very thin. I gave the first middy my birth plan. She told me that she?d go and get a midwife that was suited to my wishes. Thankfully in came the beautiful midwife by the name of Faith. She congratulated me on the birth plan and reassured me that she?d follow it to the best of her ability?and she did.

By 4am I was getting cranky because the contractions weren?t getting any worse and I didn?t feel like I was progressing. Faith assured me that I was. Shortly afterwards I was hit with a couple of OMG type of contractions and I found myself not being able to move during a contraction. I was even trying to cross my legs to stop the pressure. In a sense I was too scared of the pain and this was preventing bub from moving down. At this point the pain was getting the better of me and I wasn?t using the pain to help progress the birth. I found a good position with the fit ball up on the wall and me standing against it with a heat pack on my back. I seemed to be in that position forever and I was too scared to move.

Faith got me moving but I ended up leaning on the bed for the remainder of the labour. By 5am I was constantly looking at the clock and getting cranky because the contractions were so intense and painful that I thought I should have this all over and done with by now. (as per my previous labour). Faith covered the clock and told me to focus on the baby moving down and to breath her out. At this point I was agitated and I couldn?t tell my DH what I wanted and I just kept flicking my hands. For the next hour I made some very interesting primal type sounds, I chanted, screamed and cried. I demanded drugs and told my DH that I was over it!!!! DH wanted Faith to do an internal to see how far I had come and Faith refused. She assured us that I didn?t have long to go judging by my face and how I was acting at the time. Then suddenly I was so over it that spread my legs apart and squatted through 3 massive contractions and I felt bub move down and I could feel pressure in my anus.

A short time later Faith got out the birth kit and got me up on the bed leaning over the top of the bed. She bent one of my leg up to open up my pelvis..Very charming position!!! I knew I didn?t have long to go and this gave me incentive to keep going.

Nearly as soon as I go on the bed my waters broke and I panicked because I knew that pushing part was next. Then everything stopped and I rested for a bit. Just as I thought nothing was going to happen that almighty urge to push hit me. Faith invited DH to observe the head moving down, which gave me more incentive to push hard. My back felt like it was going to split in half but I needed to push so I did. I felt a slight burning sensation and with an almighty scream (from me) Eva?s head was out. Silly me thought the rest of her would just pop out but no another back splitting urge came on and I honestly thought that I couldn?t do this again but within seconds Eva was born. I broke down and cried. I couldn?t move for a few minutes due to my back being so sore but eventually I turned over and had my first cuddle and breast feed with baby Eva.

Faith observed my wishes for delayed cord clamping and a physiological 3rd stage despite my history of retained placenta. All went well and I only needed a few stitches.

We went home 6 hours post birth. I loved going straight home to my other girls, my own bed and my own shower. I couldn?t have asked for a better day.

Baby Eva Jazmin, born 9 July, 2009, at 6.26am, weight 3.66kgs (8lb, 1oz), length 54cms, head cir 34.5cms, Apar 9 and 9. Again we are blessed with a beautiful and healthy baby.

I would love to thank my DH for being a wonderful birth partner and Faith for trusting in my ability to birth my baby without intervention.

Congratulations! Its great that you got the birth that you wanted and had amazing support. I can't believe you had three babies born on the same day of the month, what are the chances of that!
