    It's true what they say

That no birth is ever the same!!

My dds birth was marred by an epi at 9cm which delayed birth by 5 hours, so she would have been born in around 4-5 hours if it wasn't for the intervention (and then lack of coaching) and a brand new midwife who honestly didnt know better, I can't blame her and I don't but I do blame the hospital for understaffing.

This time we expected a short labour as I had a fairly short cervix and dds birth could have been shorter but we just didnt expect it quite as short as it was.

I woke up during the night with early signs of labour. Period type pains that lasted till morning. I was due to be induced 2 days later so thought nothing of it. When it died off we went shopping and did a few other things and at the end of the day dh went to get some dinner. He walked back in the door and I was laying in bed getting as much rest as I could when I felt my water break. In a great gush it was all over the floor.

I called the hospital and told them I would stay home for a few hours because I wasn't getting contractions yet and in the meantime dh called my dad to take dd.

We couldn't get hold of dad, or out back up and I was starting to get some twinges. Finally I called my cousin and she was on her way. I jumped in the shower. By the time I got dressed my cousin was there and the car was packed and ready. Dd was excited and also packed and ready to go.

We talked for a few minutes when I realized contractions were awfully close and asked dh to time them. They were already 1 minute apart lasting around 45 seconds. We had to go!!

We got to the hospital and I needed the toilet, before being given the ok to go I was checked and 10cm. We had just got there!!!

Being a stickler for pain I spent 20 minutes crying it was happening too fast. When I finally refocused ds was born 20 minutes later, no time for pain relief, no time to think, not even enough time for dd and my cousin to get home before turning around and coming back.

Labour from start to end of third stage 2 hours (20 minutes waiting on placenta which was stuck nicely)

    No stitches, 3.73kgs, 51.5cm.

No more babes here without setting up a home birth because I'm not sure we will make it to the hospital!!
