My Birth Storey? it?s taken me a while to get time to write it! I was booked in to be induced at 40 + 4 as all through out my pregnancy I had border line high BP and it was just getting higher.
Wednesday ? booked into hospital @ 4 pm to begin my induction ? has first lot of gels inserted and then taken to my room ? no action over night.
Thursday ? Birth suit @ 9 am and second lot of gels inserted ? cervix still closed. Back to ward and see how it goes.
Friday ? STILL no action so more gels applied ? all still standing still!!
Saturday ? had enough of the hospital so I persuaded them to let me go home for the night and sleep in my own bed ? had 9 hrs sleep!! WOO HOO
Sunday ? back in birth suit @ 9 am ? home must have done some good as I was 1 cm dilated so my waters were Brocken?then the fun begins!
I was then put in the CTG monitor and the drip was started. Contractions started getting strong at approx 11.45. Managed with the gas for about 6 hrs but the gas made me feel terrible and like I was stoned and as the synto was getting increased the contractions started coming on top of each other and I had no rest so I called for an epi ? really hard to still believe as I was so sure I could do it all without any drugs at all!! 45 mins latter the anaesthetist came and administered the epi and I could have a rest.
Unfortunately I got what is called a ?patchy? epi and I would feel my right leg and right buttock ? and the pain got very very bad in my right but cheek ? I was in so much pain that they had to give me a top up with the epi 5 times in the next few hours! The pain went but came back in about an hours worse than ever and I needed the anaesthetist to come back and give me some more drugs to take the pain away!! All this time I had still been dilating so was going ok.
Ob checked me again at 2 am and I was 8 cms ? not long to go!! Ob would be back at 4 to check again. I managed to get a bit of sleep and DH has a nap in the chair. I ate some lolly snakes and got my head ready to get to the pushing ? I was scared of the pushing stage as now I couldn?t feel anything bellow my waist and I was concerned that I would not know what to do!
Ob came back at 4am and did another internal ? I was STILL ONLY 8 cms ? I had not dialated in 2 hrs! Upon hearing that news that was the only time that I swore! The Ob and the midwife went out of the room to have a chat but I already knew what they were going to say. When they came back the Ob said that seeing as I had been in labour for 16 hours and I had not dilated past 8 cms and that I had been awake for the past 2 days that it was best to have an emergency Caesar. They left the room and let Dh and I have a talk about it. We decided together that we would go a head with the Caesar and it was time to meet our baby!
Once all the forms were signed and all the risks explained to me I was prepped and wheeled into theatre. DH met me in the theatre all in his scrubs!
I was concerned that because I could feel my right leg that I was going to feel them cut me ? but the Anaesthetist said that once they had topped up the epi that I would not feel a thing he even said ?trust me I?m a doctor!!? Well he was wrong and when they started cutting my right side I could feel it! I screamed and the whole room fell silent! I was given some local and then they could continue to cut. About 5 minutes later Isabella Meryn was out and I heard that beautiful scream! The doctor showed her to us but had his hand between her legs so we didn?t know what she was! He said ?You have a girl!? James and I had a cuddle with her while I was being stitched up and then he took her out to meet her grand parents while they wheeled me into recovery. Her scores we 9 & 9.
