Talking Birth story of our little Laila Belle

    Well...
After having our first pregnancy end up in a missed mc last June, DH and I were stoked to find out I was pregnant again 2 months after...EDD 23/5/07.
We decided that we didn't want to know what we were having, as we thought it would be the best surprise we will ever get! so we waited and waited for weeks to go by till we could meet our little one.

37 weeks +6 days ....lost part of my plug..YAY!!! But had little other symptoms that anything was happening, except for occassional sharp pains to my cervix.

38 weeks +6 days ....lost more of my plug...wohooo!!..getting very eager now to meet my little one! Feeling good but.

39 weeks...slept nearly all day..felt so lazy, unmotivated..occassional pains low down, but nothing really to indicate that I would be in labour within a few hours!! Went to bed around 10:30pm.
Went to the toilet a few times before midnight but slept in between. Then at 1:30am woke up and felt so uncomfortable. I had these weird pains and and felt heaps of pressure low down. Then I realised that my tummy felt really hard, and these were happening every 5 mins (I made DH wake up and time them), and I had a slight bit of blood when I wiped. I don't think I could believe that I was actually in labour!

I phoned the hospital to let them know the situation and the midwife asked all her questions..and she said to me "well the other midwife is on her break at the moment so just take 2 panadol, a hot drink and hop back into bed. Then when your waters break come into hospital" TAKE TWO PANADOLS I THOUGHT! GEE THANKS!

So I jumped in the shower, starting to feel really yuck now. Contractions still 5 mins apart lasting 30 sec to a min. They stayed at the same rate for the next few hours but just became more intense. With each one I felt the need to run to the toilet, and wee or do number 2's and vomit- just about all at the same time!!! So I spent a lot of time just sitting on there! Oh, and I took my 2 panadol! I don't know quite why though!

At about 4 am I looked at the clock and both DH and I couldn't believe how fast the past few hours had gone. And by this stage, I didn't know what to do. I didn't want to talk, I couldn't lay down, stand up or anything. I was in my own little world and I vomitted a lot! DH then went back to bed! Contractions were now about 2-5 mins apart, lasting about 30 sec to a min and sooo uncomfy (At this point I was dreaming of an epidural and had decided that when went to the hospital I would ask my OB to cut this baby out! LOL)

At 6:15am I felt sooooo much pressure down low, and had the urge to push so bad. So I was sitting on the toilet and POP! my waters broke! Told DH to phone the hospital and tell them we were coming.

In the next 20 mins contractions were shocking, and DH packed the car. I couldn't dress myself so he did that too! I could barely talk at all. So then in the dark we hopped into the car and drove to the hossy. I then had about 4 contractions in 5 mins and wanted to push so bad that I just let it happen.

We got to the hossy and the midwife had a tlk with me and after seeing how hard and fast the contractions were coming said we better do an examination and see how things were going.
Then her jaw nearly dropped to the floor. She said "you're ready to have this baby!" , the head was right there! As it was shift change, another midwife came in to double check because they couldn't believe it (Being my first baby and all, and I had only been in labour for 6 hours).. and they quickly called the OB.
When it came to pushing, it felt sooo good and satisfying! I would never have expected that! and boy did I push! All during my pregnancy I was so scared of the baby getting stuck and that I couldn't get it out because I am really quite small (only 156cm tall and weight pre preg was around 46kg). So I was so determined!
So after about 1/2 an hour of being at the hosp, I pushed out my baby girl! (She did get a bit stuck at the end because she was face up- little bugger! but she made it out!) I only ended up with a 2nd degree tear, and had no other analgesia besides the 2 panadols I took at home! Yay

We didn't get to hold our angel baby, so holding Laila was just the best

I was so blessed with how things went. And the best thing was that I didn't go to hospital till the last moment so I managed to labour at home and did what I wanted to do- if you know what I mean?!

    BW:3.380kg
    HC:32.5cm
    L: 50cm

Time for a feed! Thanks for reading!
