On the Tuesday after my due date, I went to my mw appt as normal. I'd never really expected to go on or before my EDD, as DS was induced at term+10.
All went well, bub was still posterior, head down but not engaged..not fully anyway but a little further down that the week prior.
Straight afterward I went to accupuncture. DH had driven me to both, first time to either for him.
That night i had a couple of ouchy pains which i put down to the pelvic instability I'd had all pregnancy, and BH. as there were one or two pains then nothing.
Wednesday morning rolled around and I noticed I was having really intense pain in my pelvis 2-3 times an hour, so I took some panadol and went to bed. Slept for a couple of hours and woke up feeling fine.
Then late afternoon/early evening the pains returned, a little stronger, but still nothing really regular so I wasn't sure whether this was the real deal or not - having been induced last time I wasn't 100% sure what to expect.
I sent DH to the shops when he came home from work, to buy panadeine, which did nothing. This should have been the first clue..
7pm I decide I will go to my aqua ante natal class like normal, cos that might stop the pelvic pain I'm feeling. As I get in to the pool I get a really bad one and have to hold on to the rail until it passes. People joke that I will have the baby in the hydropool.
Through the class I notice that they are roughly 10 minutes apart, 1-2 minutes long. The instructor asks a few times if Im ok and do I want to get out, which I do in the end, but only to go to the loo. As soon as I get out of the water everything hurts a lot more and gets closer together.
A friend from class follows me home in case anything happens (sorry feeb -- I drove there...wont make that mistake again if theres a next time!)
I get home at 9pm and tell DH he needs to ring my parents to come over, Im calling my midwife and we're having the baby tonight. He calls them and they're a good 40 minutes away as they arent home - Wednesdays is the night they stay out in the city after work. So we ring my Aunty and she says she'll be over in 5 minutes, and stays til my parents come.
In the meantime I call my midwife and get her backup, thats right she'd told me that it was her night off, but it was not the midwife I was expecting to answer. This is a good thing, as its the one I was hoping to have if it werent my regular one. She says to finish up what Im doing and she'll meet me at the hospital. Its when I get off the phone I realise theres no petrol in the car and also decide the pizza we had for dinner has to get out, there is not enough room for dinner and the baby.
This is when my Aunty seriously thinks she'll be delivering the baby herself in our ensuite.
DH gets home and we leave for hospital, I'm having contractions every 2-3 minutes the entire way there. I tell him to go to emergency, so we park the car and he queues up to speak to the triage nurse.... lol
'Nooooooo' I say and go straight to the next wiondow and tell them I need to go to the birthing unit now, she akss me how far apart my contractions are and I tell her 2-3 minutes..she looks at me and asks more q's til I have a contraction, at which point she calls upstairs and says they need a wheelchair here now or I might have the baby in A&E
10pm - Get upstairs and meet midwife. Announce I want gas. This doesnt happen. Which is good, 'cos i really don't want gas, i just want the baby out.
My midwife suggests the shower, and I decide thats ok... once I go to the toilet.
I never got off the toilet.
I couldnt get up. I didnt know if i was pushing, or what was happening. I think I announced that I wanted to go home, lol
MW said that he?d be coming soon, that my waters would probably break and hed be here really quick after that, and thats about what happened. Second stage of labour was 5 minutes -- after 2.5 hours with DS1 this was a big surprise i didnt know it could happen that fast.
Oscar Byron was born at 10:40pm on 13/5/2009 and weighed in at 10lb 3oz or 4620grams
I had a physiological third stage, and a minor first degree tear but didn't need suturing.
We went home the next morning, much to my familys horror (hehe they thought they could visit me in hospital!), and are all doing well so far
