    Smile Jensen Avis

Hi! I can only remember this as best I can (and I'll add more when I can remember anything else!) - so here goes!
Jensen was 7 days over due! I had a S+S on the thursday before he was born. Friday, I decided I'd go grocery shopping to see if the walking could start things going. I got home and later that night, around 730 realised that my feet, all the way up to my knees, were so swollen. I called the hospital and was told that that happens in the later stages of pregnancy. Ok, put my feet up! Not long later, i went to bed with a small back ache, from all that walking. 10:30 I got up again, just to go to the loo. There was a bloody show, from there I panicked. I called Andrew, my dh, up to the toilet door with the phone so I could call the hospital again. I was told that this could be the early stages of labour and to go back to bed with my hot pack. Then, at 1am, I woke up and a split second later - enough time to have the feeling of dread wash over me, my water broke. I had Andrew help me to the shower and he stripped the bed and grabbed the things on my list. We called the hospital, they weren't keen on us coming in - they'd said we may have to send me home again. I quickly jumped on here to let everyone in my belly buddies group what was happening and off we went to the hospital. 2:30 we got there, and they'd put me on a monitor to check contractions. I was throwing up and leaking fluid ( i was blown away by how much there was!) They did an internal to find that it was only my hind waters that had broken and I was 4cm dialated. At 4am, they walked me to the delivery suite and hooked me up with some gas. I was now at 6cm, where they hooked me up with gas and broke my waters. I have no idea how long after they asked and gave me a shot of pethidine. I was told to let someone know when i needed to push. But because of the gas and peth, I slept through the gaps between contractions (where Andrew tested out the gas!), I started pushing without knowing what i was doing. A midwife came from nowhere! I was pushing as long and as hard as i could, but sometimes ended up pushing in the wrong spot, or pushing in the right spot, but not long enough and Jensen's head would crown and then disappear back in. The midwife said I had some tearing and had to cut so that he could make a better appeareance. Andrew, who was determined to stay up my end of the delivery, got just as excited as the midwife when the head started showing, that he plucked up the courage to have a look. Finally, when the babys head was out (and I didnt believe them that it was!), the midwife asked if I wanted to feel the babys head. Originally I said no, but changed my mind - because, omg what an experience! It was a soft, gooey hairy lump! It wasn't long then, til he was born completely and the midwife held him up and said "its a" with Andrew saying that it was a boy! Up til then he was just a baby, and even tho it was a 50/50 chance of having one or the other, it was still a complete surprise and made things so much more real.

Jensen Andrew Avis was born at 0753 at Redlands Hospital QLD, weighing 3820g (8lb 7oz).
