The birth of Lara Jade - 26/10/2008

Hi everyone, Lara is now 5 weeks old and I thought it was time I wrote my birth story.

Lara's edd was the 13th - 15th November 2008 but due to a difficult labour with DD1 that ended in an emergency caesar I was told I would never be able to have vaginal birth due to the possibility that I may rupture and because of this I would only ever be able to have caesarians. Anyway I was booked for my caesar on the 3rd of November at 38 wks.

On Saturday 25th of October we had to go to DH's grandmothers 80th birthday party. At the party she said to me to have the baby tomorrow (26th Oct) as that was actually her birthday. I told her I would try, not thinking another thing of it.

The next day DH had to go to work which just happened to be an hour away and in the same town that my mother lived in so I had planned for DD and I to go for a drive with him to visit my mum while he was at work and he would pick us up once he was finished. I started having niggling pains when I woke up but didn't really think anything of it, I went about my morning but while I was in the shower they started to get a bit stronger. I thought they were probably just braxton hicks. I told DH and he said maybe I should call the hospital but I said no coz I honestly thought it would be a false alarm and didn't want to look like a fool. I called my mum to tell her we were still coming but I might bring my hospital bag just in case. My hospital bag had been packed for a few weeks but I hadn't packed any of my clothes because I was still wearing them. After I got off the phone to my mum I went into the laundry to get some clean clothes from the washing basket and as I bent down to get some my waters partially broke. I then thought jeez things must be starting to happen so I called the hospital and they told me to come up. I quickly finished packing and DH, DD and I went to the hospital. On the way to the hospital my contractions slowed right down so I was thinking maybe it is a false alarm. Once we got to the hospital (about 11:30am) I went into the birth suite and one of the midwives hooked me up to ecg for about 30 mins. While I was hooked up my contractions had still slowed down. Once I had finished on the ecg she then told me the dr had been caught up with another patient and that she'd be with me asap. I waited about an hour for the dr to come and see me, by this time my contractions were about 3 mins apart and were getting quite painful. I had a warm shower to try and ease the pain. When the dr came she did an internal exam and said I needed to have a caesar right away (especially because I wasn't meant to labour due to the fact that I may rupture). DH had to quickly call MIL to come up to the hospital to mind DD while I had my caesar.

Lara Jade was born on the 26th of October 2008 at 4:15 pm at 37 weeks. She weighed 2760 grams or 6 pound, 42 cms long and had a HC of 30cms.

I had the director of Gynaecology and Obstetrics perform my caesar and he told me because I had laboured for so long that I had split on the inside all the way down to my private part and he told me that because of this I can't have anymore children which I am a bit bummed about because we were planning on 3.

Lara is such a good baby and I cherish every moment with her, especially because she'll be my last little baby.

Thanks for reading my birth story.
