    Kailey Summer 17.07.10

I thought since i am home already and i still have all the details fresh in my mind that i would post my birth story. *might be all over the place and make not much sense*

It all started on Thursday i woke up and was in a lot of pain in my pelvis and was having braxton hicks all morning but because me and DP had arranged to go shopping with his sister and her family i got ready and off we went. Walking around the mall was very painful at first but then everything started loosening up so i enjoyed my day.

5pm: i was chatting to my bestfriend on FB and i started to get really tired, by 6:30 i had fallen asleep on the couch, DP insisted i go to bed but i kept resisting until about 7:15pm i gave in and he tucked me in. I woke up every couple of hours but then didnt wake up again until DP got to bed..

1:50am: DP came to bed, he cuddled me for a few minutes and then i rolled over, as i did i felt a trickle run down. I thought id just peed myself so i got up to go to the toilet, as soon as i stood up i felt a small gush and then another. I just stood there and DP asked what was wrong and i said i think my waters just broke.. he asked if i was sure and i said i dont know. I went to the toilet and i peed but still felt it wasnt pee. After what seemed like forever DP told me to call the birth suite so i went into the loungeroom to find my antenatal card and to grab the phone, as i passed the kitchen i felt another gush and then another until it was streaming down my legs and i knew for sure that it was my waters. I called out to him, he got out of bed and was straight onto the phone to the birth suite. I called my mum and off we were to the hospital..

2:30am: We arrived at the hospital. I was put straight into a room, they did a pee test and checked the pad i was wearing to make sure that it was infact my waters. Things start to get blurry after this point. But i was put onto the maternity ward and DP and my mum were asked to leave.

5am: I started to have contractions, they were about 10 mins apart. They started out as only period type pains very managable so i kept to myself. I went to the toilet and had my bloody show, i told the nurse on duty and she said it was normal and to let them know once my contractions ramped up. I was pacing back and fourth between contractions and when they came i leant down on the bed and breathed. I had a midwife watch me and guide me through them she said i was doing great. Then after maybe 2 hours the contractions moved into my back, they were harder to get through i started groaning and breathing heavy which again the midwife was watching and commenting how great i was doing. It was nice to be reassured i was doing well.

9am: I started to get emotional and wanted DP there by my side so i went to the nurses station and called him, he had only got maybe 4 hours sleep and didnt want to come in until much later but by this stage i was starting to cry through contractions and needed him.

10am: My DP and mum were back, they were so helpful talking me through contractions a very good distraction. A midwife told DP to walk me up and down the hallway as they said i was progressing very slowly, every 2 meters i had to stop and breath through a contraction. They seemed to be coming very reguarly but when i sat down they stopped so i was insistant on keeping walking.

5pm (approx): The contractions were coming 5 mins apart by now and the pain in my back was unbearable i was screaming through each and every contraction, i wanted to jump out of my skin. I was moved from the shared room to a single room. By 7pm i couldn't handle the pain anymore so i begged for something stronger than panadol. I was given a morphine shot which put me to sleep. I slept for about an hour and then it wore off and the back pain came back and was A LOT worse.

I'm not sure what time it was but i started to feel the need to push so i was rushed to the birth suite where they did an internal and i was only 6cms. I was told i needed to stop the need, so i was given gas to try and relax as well as relieve my back pain as i was still screaming through each one. The gas wasn't working for my back so i was offered saline injections, the first 30 secs were excruiating i screamed for about 10 mins and bawled my eyes out but then when i overcame the shock it was amazing.

Around 10/10:30pm (give or take) I was offered a bath which i took. Sitting in the bath was instant relief but with each contraction i was pushing, i couldn't help it. The doctor first told me i would cause nothing but damage if i continued where as the midwife said try not to but dont worry if i couldn't. I was given gas in the bath to try again to stop my urge to push, it must have been alot stronger than the one in the room as i fell asleep in the bath. The back pain returned so i was given another dose of the saline injections into my back. After that was done i was really pushing so the midwife said that she would do one last internal and if i wasnt full dilated she would make me have an epidural. And when she did the internal i was fully dilated.

12am: time for some serious pushing. She wanted me to birth on all fours, so i started pushing but 30 mins into it i was too tired so i laid on my back, it was very hard pushing but the relief was excellent. With every push i felt like i wasn't getting anywhere, i kept doubting myself telling them i couldnt do it but my midwife was great she kept saying that i am doing it and i will

1:25am: Kailey entered the world. She was placed straight up on to my chest and i remember just thinking she is the most beautiful baby i have ever seen, she was so warm and she looked right up at me. she didnt make a single noise she just looked so content laying there. Then i felt something warm, she did her first wee and poo on my thigh i just laughed and gave her a kiss.

I'll finish off by telling you the first thing i said when she came out..

    "it wasn't that bad..."

You did an awesome job. I can't believe you've already done your birth story! I'm impressed! lol. Did she come out sunny side up? Sounds like she was posterior for a while there! Back labour is not fun. Bet you're just loving the cuddles with your beautiful girl. Congratulations xxx

Yooouuuu, my dear, are a TROOPER! 'It's not that bad' after nearly two hours of pushing, and over 24 hours of labour (technically)? What a freakin' CHAMP you are, girl!! So proud of you Kailey is such a very pretty little baby, I feel so privileged to have been able to check out pics so soon She's just lovely, like her beautiful mama (although she has daddy's fair hair!).
You did an amazing job thundering on for so long - what a day! My first labour was four hours from start to finish and I remember bursting into tears about two hours in when the midwife told DH and I the baby 'probably wouldn't be here until around 6pm' (it was midday when she said it!)!! How did DP go throughout? Hope he's keeping your feet up and taking care of everything else for you while you enjoy those wonderful newborn snuggles I'm glad everyone's settling in well, you deserve to enjoy every precious moment as you've worked VERY hard and been through so much to get to this point Well done hun!!

    Thanks ladies

She was born posterior i knew she would be but i'm very proud of myself for being able to do it. Looking back i can't believe how long i went without any pain relief. I had both DP and my mum there with me the whole time, they were great. Whenever i screamed they would tell me to breathe and to focus on that, most the time i would cry "i cant do this" to which they would say "you are doing this and you're doing great". At times he got emotional he hated seeing me in so much pain and not being able to help.

Kailey is doing really well. Taking to her bottles very well now. Guzzeling them down and feeding every 2/3 hours.
