Smile Little Girls Suprise EARLY Arrival

    Ok.

Thursday - Book into the hospital for my due date. The Braxton Hicks contractions had started, I could feel my tummy tighten at times

    Friday - Work as usual

On Saturday night I was excited. I had hit 30 weeks - was seriously on the count down. I had 5 more weeks left of work. I was getting ready to go to a friends Hens night. Trying to find clothes in my cupboard. I was feeling great.

So off I went, and had an awesome time. I danced the night away - Macerana, Time Warp general boggie as well as a energetic Nutbush (my friends mum was worried I would drop then and there). My reply - I'll be 38 weeks at the wedding and be doing this, i'm fine.

Sunday - felt great although a little sleepy and sore from the great night. lazed around the house most of the day. Had a shower, brush my teeth and off to bed.

3am Monday morning - I had some dull pain at the bottom of my belly. nothing major just little twinges, like a period pain. Being only 30 weeks along I thought nothing of it. I rolled over and went back to sleep.

5.30am - Felt thirsty so I rolled out of bed to grab a drink and go to the loo. Now the panic set in. There was blood. Not a great deal but enough to think "oh no" (or similer). I wrapped the toilet paper up and hurried back to our room and woke hubby up "we have to go to the hospital". We threw what ever clothes on we could find and jumped in the ute (I had swore I wasnt going to go to the hospital in it when I was in labour, firstly had no choice it was at the top of the driveway, secondly had no idea i was in labour)

6am - we arrived at Singleton hospital in a panic. on the drive the pain had become a little stronger. I had 3 big pains in 20 minutes. The midwife placed me in to the delivery suite and placed me on the CTG. Baby heart was pumping great (that was a major relief after thinking the worst). This is where i layed for 40 minutes. The Midwife came and checked once. The pain was sometimes string, othertimes like a twinge, and at no regualr intervals

6.45am - The midwife felt that the pains were 'general 30 week pains, nothing to worry about, but ill call the Dr to come and check on you anyway due to the bleeding and the bloood you showed us."

7am - a new midwife arrived. She had examined me on the Thrusday and felt around my stomach after explaining what was going on. The pains had now begun to get a little stronger (we still didnt know we were actually in labour). She was getting ready to moniter me again, but was waiting half an hour as i hadnt long come off the machine. Hubby was asked to write the time of the pain and how painful it was.

7.15am - Dr arrives to examine me. He finds that I am actually 2cm dialted. AAAAHHHHHH!!! Upon asking what that means he explains that everything will be done to halt the process, best case baby will stay in for a few more weeks, worst case baby will be here today. We are explained that I will be transfered to John Hunter to be monitered, either by road or air. Hubby rings his boss to say he wont be in, rings my mum to explain what is going on. I msg boss to say wont be in but will call later.

7.30am - after having a drip inserted in to my arm, being given a drug to slow and halt teh labour the Dr comes back. Unfortuanlty the John Hunter are unable to take me. I will be transfered to Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne or Auckland. JHH is organising this, getting the chopper ready. Another midwife enters the room and starts getting items ready in case baby comes quicker then they thought.

8am - OMG I NEED TO PUSH!!!! This line I still cant belive I came out with. Ok I am not getting transfered now this baby is going to be born today right now. HUbby is trying to tell me everything is going to be ok whilst shackign like a leaf, a sign he is stressed and panicked. More rushing around to make sure there is plenty of things ready for this birth - oxygen, a warm humidy crib on stand by. They call JHH again and say that this baby is coming

Approx 8.30am - My water breaks.

8.45am - ITS A GIRL!! She is quickly placed on teh resus table and given oxygen to help breath and warmth. Hubby checks her out and comes back with a pic for me as I cant see her from where I am. I can barely hear her little cries. Everythign is fine they tell me. SHe is weighed - 1630 grams, her head 29cm and approx 38cm long

9am - i get a quick cuddle - literally 30 seconds, we get a quick picture and she is taken to another room and placed in a humidy crib with a heart mintor, oxygen feed into the crib, a tiny beanie to keep warm. SHe is perfect

10.30 am - NETS from the JHH turn up to transport our daughter to JHH NICU (they were now able to take her and it was in the air if I was going to be able to go to). They connected her to more moniters, oxygen, drips. Made sure she was stable. Strapped into teh stretcher with humidy crib. She left Singleton at around 12.30.

I never went in the NETS with her, or walk out of the hospital as it was hard enough watching everything unfold. After she left I was advised that I had a bed in a ward at teh JHH. That night I was able to hold my little girl for an hour adn a half - nearly 12 hours after birth.

We spent the next 2 weeks at the hospital (although I went home on teh Wednesday after she was born having not slept since Sunday). A fortnight after she was born we recived a call saying they were transfering her to Maitland. We then spent a further 5 weeks in Maitland Hosptital

The Tuesday before the wedding we were able to bring our little girl home. She had grown so much. she was 2.5kgs now, 48cm long and 35cm head. well on the way to being the big baby we were expecting. Had I gone to term she would have weighed more.

She will be 1 in a 4 weeks and hubby and I can not believe the strong willed, fast paced little monster we have now from such scary begininngs

    WOW, what a story! Congratulations!

I'm so glad you got a cuddle at birth even if it was short, Brendan (DS1) wasn't even placed on my chest.

How is she going for development now? I hope she is doing well

perfect. Hitting the right spots for a corrected 9 month old - some early or late but generally spot on. Just waiting for her first tooth that's showing no sign of coming
