wrote this in word and sorry its so long for such a quick delivery...

The birth of Maree Jesse.

I better start at the beginning, after trying to fall pregnant for many months we had pretty much given up and decided our 2 precious gifts were enough. Well the next month after another early loss we find out I’m pregnant so we take it easy just in case lots of blood tests to watch numbers and an early dating scan, showed us we were 6 weeks and 4 days and due on the 23rd of December 2009, due date from LMP was 25th of December.
We shouldn’t of worried though as the constant morning sickness was enough to remind me what miracle was growing inside. So finally at 22 weeks the morning sickness goes away and I can start to function semi normal. At 32 weeks SPD kicks in the worst hip pain I have ever felt panadol did nothing rest was the key. Yeh ok ill do that working and still looking after a 2 yo and running around an athletics track with my 9 yo.
Ok so we found out at our 19 week scan we were expecting a little girl, we were over the moon.
22nd dec - Fast forward to day before due date, I start having pains, 4 min apart not real long but painful enough to make me stop and breath, well pack the kids up off to Nan and pa’s for the night, we go up, not much only low and they all stop after 2 hours. Back home we go
23rd dec – due date comes and goes nothing to report here.
We make it through Christmas day and Boxing Day with nothing just swollen feet from doing to much that all settles when I sit down and relax.

The eventful day arrives.
29th December 2009.
Woke up normal day, hubby went outside continued to paint the house, this was fine, I stayed inside had my cuppa a shower and got ready to go and see the doc at 10:15 am. No pains no sign of labour nothing, so off we trot down to see him now 6 days over due and find out when he is going to induce me so we can meet our little baby girl.
10:30 doc still not there as he is busy at hospital delivering babies, that’s cool still no signs, have had one niggle but nothing I would class as a real contraction.
10:45 we go in and see him, does weight, still 80kg no change in last 6 weeks, BP still 107/65 so all good no medical reason for induction so we say Thursday is the day if she does come out sooner. So up on the bed I get all measuring well, bubs heart rate good, movements felt, then he did an internal, said yep cervix is favourable not dilated yet but in a good position and nice and soft. As he does this my first contraction started.
10:55 first contraction while on the bed in the doctors room, stand up and have a very large bloody show it goes everywhere, I initially thought it was my waters but when I looked nope just blood.
11:05 we get home 2 contractions on the way home and they are really hurting, I say to hubby ill just jump in the shower and see if it settles it down then we will head up to the hospital so get the bags into the other car and I wont be long. So off he goes does that for me. Meanwhile they are coming almost on top of each other now maybe 30-50 seconds between them I’m in the shower and I can’t do it any longer, I am screaming in agony, and I remember thinking oh crap this is transition, just breath don’t scream screaming does nothing breath it though. Yeh ok breathe it through.
11:08 hubby runs into the shower and says ok get out we are going to the hospital now, I said um no ring the ambos, I won’t make it she is coming. His words, no she isn’t she can’t come now, so he rings 000 and what felt like an eternity they answer and we get put through to NSW ambulance and onto an operator.
While he is ringing I’m on the floor on my hands and knees over the toilet seat thinking I need to do a poo.
As I get out of the shower, my waters break with the next contraction and they are heavily meconium stained and almost dark green, looked more like runny poo than my waters, that was the scary part and I thought oh no I have to relax and get her out safely.
The lady on the phone said get her on her back, I screamed to Alex, nope no way I cant move I’m staying here, and the fact our bathroom is very small I didn’t have room to turn over and the toilet was giving me leverage to push against when it hurt so basically the whole time.
11:15 the ambos are still not here, and she is coming she crowns and then I try not to push but the contractions are so strong they push her out without me trying, I yell to hubby to catch and he does. He catches her beautifully her arm comes out straight after her head then she just slides out and the rest of my waters follow. The poor bathroom floor is now covered in blood and waters and meconium. We wrap her up in a towel and she starts crying but is a bit gurgling she is a beautiful pink colour and safely in her daddy’s arms.
11:19 the ambos come barging in through the front door as hubby explains it, as the front door is a construction site at the moment and all the kids toys were in front of it, so bang crash they are in and come and take over, clamp the cord and let Alex cut the cord then wrap her up and daddy gets his first cuddle.
11:27 we leave home and head for the hospital, the ambo’s were so busy they had someone in the truck already which was fine with me, the funny bit here was that she used to rent our house before we bought it. Very small country town really.
11:45 after getting to hospital I deliver the after birth with no synto which was great, bubs is weighed and measured and checked over. Given the thumbs up and all is good. I got one 2nd degree tear down my old episiotomy scar otherwise all good.
My doctor/ boss was very surprised to see me holding a baby only 30 min after he saw me in his rooms and said all looks good.
6:00 pm we go home from hospital and start our new life as a family of 5.

So in summary:
30 min from first contraction to her delivery.
No gas, no pain relief like I had planned
Hubby delivered her on our bathroom floor
I went from 0cm to 10cm and out in 20 min
Breast fed and going well so far.
2nd degree tear.

Maree Jesse is now home safe after her quick arrival into her daddy’s arms.

3.69kg
53 cm long
34cm head circumference

Her big sister and brother are just smitten with her and wont leave her be all they want is cuddles and kisses.

A huge thank you to the ambulance drivers and an even bigger hug to my wonderful hubby who kept his cool through the whole event. All the staff at the hospital were very impressed with it and were calling him our special midwife all arvo, it was great he is such a proud dad.
