    Milly Lee 10/01/10

Mother’s day 2009 I got a very special present...a BFP. Went to the doctors a few weeks later to have it confirmed and found out we were due on the 13th of January 2010.
Had a trouble free pregnancy without much sickness until Christmas day when we all got a nice dose of gastro!! I had a doctor’s appointment on my birthday the 31st of December for a stretch and sweep and had everyone expecting I’d be sharing my birthday but that wasn’t to happen because my cervix wasn’t open. I remember telling DH that’s ok she can come on the 10_1-10 so she has a cool birth date lol.

Went to bed after watching iron chef on Saturday 9th with a feeling that something was going to happen...I couldn’t sleep and just tossed and turned I got up at about 3.30am went to the toilet and realised my waters had broken!! DH woke up and I told him I can’t sleep I might just play on the computer for a bit. He was having none of this after having a rapid birth with DD he wanted to get to hospital ASAP. So he called Mum as she was coming to hospital and her partner was staying here with the other kids.
We arrived at the hospital at around 4.30am with my contractions coming about every 5 minutes but they where bearable. I had to have a canular put in as I had strep B the midwife wasn’t hopeful of finding a vein so luckily the doctor on call was around to put it in because even he needed a few pokes to find the right spot.

At around 5.30am the midwife did an internal only to inform me I was only 2cms dilated so it looked like things wouldn’t be moving as fast as they had with DD. I found a spot that was comfy, standing up leaning on the bed head, with a cool flannel because I was incredibly hot(I don’t understand why the delivery suites aren’t cooler!!) Here’s where is lose track of time it just felt like one long contraction so I just stood in my spot and contracted away...quietly...I don’t make noise I don’t like to talk DH and mum where timing my contractions but the wiggling of my toes, strangely it takes my mind of the length of contraction if I focus on my toes.

I think around 7ish I got tired, I didn’t want to stand any longer so I thought I’d try the bed for a bit this seemed to slow things down a bit but I didn’t care i was tired so i laid on the bed with a flannel on my head with my eyes closed hoping if i wished hard enough everything would just stop and i could have a nap lol.
I wasn’t talking and i didn’t want anyone to touch my flannel or me for that matter. Up until now i had a nice quiet midwife who got me so didn’t try to talk to me or bother me too much...7.30am was shift change and i got a talker didn’t i! I was quite happy in my zone until midwife sat on the end of my bed and chatted away to my mum. Every time she spoke the bed jiggled and i was about 2 seconds from extending my leg and kicking her butt off my bed!!! Until that is i felt an urge I wanted to push so without telling anybody i started to push and two big pushes later i had birthed my beautiful baby girl! She was placed on my bare chest for the best messiest snuggle ever!!

Back to the business end the midwife snapped the cord so I was told unless i pushed out the placenta i would need surgery so i spent longer pushing out the placenta then i did my baby after that was all out the doctor came in for a bit of a look I had a graze that didn’t need stitches so he left me to my cuddles.

All up i was in labour for about 4 hours I was pregnant for 39 weeks and 4 days I have spent the last two weeks falling in love with my beautiful daughter and I know for the rest of her life every single day that goes by i will fall in love with her a little more.
