28th October - Peanuts has arrived

At long last i get too write my story of our little Peanut

Just some quick background info - i have had 2 miscarriages - after a whole heap of blood tests through a couple of my cycles it was found that i had a low progesterone problem and if i was too fall pregnant again i would need too go on progesterone injections until my placenta took over.

January i had my last period - was soooo happy when i found out i was pregnant! DH and i were hoping we would be 3rd time lucky!
Straight away i started on progesterone injections a couple of times a week - and after 6mths of injections and blood tests later, my placenta had taken over and i could stop my injections! woohoo ( that was a big feat for me as i was petrified of needles)

29wks pregnant i needed too have urgent surgery to have my gall bladder removed due to 3 gall stone attacks brought on by pregnancy! This brought with it the risk of having a premmy baby!

2nd last OB appt i was almost 40wks (phew no premmy bub) my OB booked me in to be induced on the 28th of October at 8pm we than had too head back to the hospital at 0630 the next morning to have my waters broken!
This upset me big time as i really wanted for it too happen naturally - but after all we had been through i would do anything just too have my little peanuts safe in my arms.

27th October was my last appt with my OB i was 40wks and 6days! my OB did a internal (ouch) and i was 1cm dilated with a soft cervix. She said she would see me tomorrow night if not sooner!!! I went home and was quite uncomfortable all afternoon and evening! DH and i attempted a long walk that night!

1000pm DH and i went too bed to prepare for our big night the next night! at 1030pm i felt really hot and not quiet well so i went to the toilet - i started too get pains and after many visits too the toilet i woke DH and said i think something is happening!
So we started timing the "pains" and they were about 10-12mins apart. DH rung the labour ward at the Wesley and they said when the contractions were 5mins apart too head on in!
DH was tired so i told him to go too bed and try and get some sleep - he sooo nicely set me up on the computer before he went off to bed - i of course got on BB! And posted a thread "am i in labour?" and yep i sure was!
The pain got worse sooo i cried out for DH - at this stage the contractions were about 7-9mins apart - we laid in bed together timing them as DH helped me too concentrate on my breathing as i tend too hold my breath and or hyperventilate. I actually enjoyed this moment with DH, despite the pain.
At 6mins apart we rung the hospital and they said head on in!
So we both had a shower and off we went with my bag that had been packed for ages!!!

5am and many painful contractions later we arrived at the Wesley - we were taken too the lovely big delivery suit which so happened too be the same one we were shown on our tour. i was then hooked up too a monitor too have my contractions monitored!
At this stage i was only 2cm dialated.
The midwife was talking about having my waters broken since i was due too be induced anyway - no way did i want that too happen, i had gotten this far i wanted them too break them selves.

All of a sudden i had this urge too pee - soo i asked DH if he could help me up when after a massive contraction i found my self scrambling for a hold of DH - he was like whats going on u just had a contraction, i felt this pop than cried saying i think i had just wet my self - he was soooo sweet and said thats okay darling its natural! i was sooo embarrased - the midwife helped me up when all of a sudden this big gush or water came running out! WOOHOOO my waters had broken (but i dont remember reading on BB that the "pop" acutally hurts which it did). It was when the midwife was helping me change into the hospital gown that we noticed i had lost my mucus plug also (how horrible looking is that thing?). At this stage i guess u could say i started to panic a little - it was all so overwhelming!

I hoped in the shower for pain relief - which didnt help and than was offered gas - which made me feel really sick - i couldnt have pethedine cause of my morphine sensitivity, so my OB highly recommended a epi as i was getting very exhausted and the pain was unbearable - once again i got upset at the thought of this and felt like i was letting everyone down if i gave into a epi - so the anesthesist had a chat with me and said he would put me on the lowest dosage possible and if i wanted more he could always top me up! i agreed!

My gosh how much does a epi hurt!!!!!! after it was in i could still feel my legs and move them - however the pain of the contractions had lessened a bit! i was than also put on a drip too bring on my contractions stronger and faster. Before i knew it i was 5cm dilated!

At 1145am i mentioned too my midwife that the pain was getting unbearable again and i had this pressure in my bottom and vagina - she said before topping the epi up (which had run out) she would check dilation - i was 10cm dilated! The midwife said no more epi it was time too push - DH who was resting at the time jumped straight up at the mention of the word "push".
The midwife held on leg and DH the other and i started pushing with all my might!
It wasnt long when i heard - i can see the head - and DH took a look also - i snapped at him and told him not too look as i felt like i was going too poop myself - The midwife laughed, and u should of seen the look on DH's face!!My OB was rung and arrived not long after.
So down my end DH went, he did a fantastic job of giving me my drinks between contractions, and wiping my brow! It all happened sooooo very fast when i look back at it now, but at the time it felt like ages.

After 35mins of pushing our Baby Girl Bianca Jane arrived into the world weighing 7pds 5oz, 48cm long, head circumference 33cm.
She had swallowed a fair bit of meconium on her way out and needed oxygen and suctioning but apart fromt that she was perfectly healthy!

The feeling of having her put on my chest was overwhelming, DH cut the cord and gave her, her first bath which started my tears following! I did require a few stitches (ouch), but she is well worth it!

I have gotten over feeling bad about having the epi and wouldnt change a thing! i survived 6.5hrs of pain at home and a total of 10hrs without any pain relief so im pretty proud of my self. I couldnt of done this with out the love and support of my wonderful husband tho! He was great throughout it all.

I GUESS WE WERE 3RD TIME LUCKY AFTER ALL!

P.S DH did get too watch the birth of his daugher and....... i DIDN'T end up pooping myself

P.P.S i would also like too thank all of u lovely ladies that have been with me throught my miscarriages and pregnancy of our little peanut.

Just thought i would say thank you everyone for reading my Birth Story!
It truely was an amazing experience and one that i wish i could do all over again (for the first time hehehe), and one that i will never forget!
If i could give out one piece of advice for all you new mummy's to be - that would be, as painful as giving birth is, it really does go sooo fast, so try and enjoy it and savour every moment of it, it really is worth everything u go through in the end.
Being a mother for the first time is a wonderful thing!
