My birth story 6 mths later:

    Alistair Leslie Flakemore was 6p 7 or 2.9kg born on 29/6/08 at 5 45pm
I was 37 or 38 weeks LMP pregnant (we?re not sure now due to Alistair being a scanned date of baby week 35wks) I only know the definite dates of him as I had the baby dates from my ultrasound on my mobile ? so I with the midwife (whilst I was in early labour) worked out what week little bub would be when born. They induced me or agreed to induce me as my Bp went to 150/100 and I was feeling breathless and at times when trying to sleep experiencing (in the last few days prior) a drowning feeling (very weird and revolting feeling). I went to the Gp at 1040 on the Frid and I walked into Sandringham Hospital at 1130 and the first prostin gel was inserted at 1230pm. They had to use the gel three times with 6-8hours in between doses but alas my body wasn?t co-operating but I was in constant pre labour pain. They jabbed me with some peth and it killed any labour I was in. Until Sunday morning at (12 hours since my last gel dose) 6 30am I woke to the same niggling pre labour pains (that were now known as uterine cramps and I was to be admitted to the ward for a wait and see period and if no action then a c section was to be performed) however Scott arrived (again) at 1130 and I was sucking on the gas as these ?uterine cramps? were getting more and more intense?. So I said ?um honey you better get a nurse as these pains are getting worse and I don?t think the bloody gas is working anymore?. So with that Scott told the nurses and really we were off on the road to delivering our precious?..
(I was gearing up and asked for an epidural but this is what happened instead?..)
I had yet another PV exam but this time ahaha I was 4 cm dialted ?. At 12pm , I then needed the loo well that was fun mmm NOt but when I was sitting on loo I discovered that my plug was finally coming away (only waiting 48 hours and 3 gels later). I then (don?t know how) walked back inbetween contractions back to the room where Scott and the midwife was. I then stopped in the door way as I had tricles but I was told that was the plug still. I was then attached to the CTG machine and yes I went back to bed and sucked on the gas which was turned up by now thank god?. At 2pm or so the Dr came in and said ?ainsley I will do an PV , if I can break the waters I will if I cant we will wait til the epi is in and working? I said cool, but dreading it. To my surprise she broke my waters witout hardly any pain (amazing) I then demanded this epi as I was petrified of this continous labour pains that were getting stronger and stronger and the worst I thought I didn?t want to be able to feel the bubs head crowning! BUT In between all this the loo the plug and more gas and the dr breaking my waters, I was getting anxious and demanding and asking poor scott to ring our friend Jo who wanted to be there at the birth (she had been there since the frid) and then on and off till I demanded scottt ring her. I was replied with ?women Im working as fast as I can? I then cried and said ?don?t growl at me? then scott came over to me ?and said silly goose I wasn?t growling and then I got the giggles? amazing what our hormones can do. Fast forward to waters being broken?. Jo was present finally so it was about 3pm, I was given another shot of peth and I was really laboring ? a shower was suggested .. I don?t know how Scott and Jo got me there but they did beautiful people. Shower bloody divine and it did take the pain away for the time being?. I felt a bit faintish so Scott and Jo got me back to the room . I was then asked if I could MOVE rooms to the bigger delivery room I just looked at Scott and just shook my head and sucked on the gas. Oh I forgot the bit about the epi mmm after the waters were broken the dr was trying to get the anathetsis and then came back in the room and said ?no luck ainsley the epi has been refused due to your high bloodpressure? I said oh what a ****in ****? ok if there no epi turn this gas on full pelt and I need another peth shot NOW! (then I had the shower ?) right after shower: the ctg machine was put back on but the nurses saw that the babys HR was dropping drastically a few times in between contraction so they warned me if I don?t dilated to 10 cm soon I will need a C section I said
Yeah ok just get my baby out alive please. Then I turned to scott and Jo and said I think I need to push as I felt the baby move down?. I was sucking on that gas like there was no tomorrow ?. Midwife did a PV and said ?ains your 10 cm so if you want to push PUSH?. I thought holy crap this is going to hurt getting this baby out through my fanny ?. Dr was in the room and she too saw the CTG and noticed that baby was a tad distressed at times so she said ?ains we need to get your baby out NOW so we will need to use forceps? I said ?no way .. use the vacuum instead dr agreed thank god. But before they even got the vacuum thingy out the packet I yelled to the dr who was down the business end all this time?. I yelled I need to push . So with the help of my beloved Scott who was my pushing coach and the encouragement of this dr who was saying go girl you can birth your baby no worries?. 5 pushes later my baby was out and NO MORE PAIN at all. AMAZING. Alistair was covered in vernix was breathing on his own straight away and beautiful. I was in total shock that I actually did all by my self without the big epi and at the end with out the GAS as that was tossed as I needed to be with it to push the baby down and out.
I was sawn up I had 3 small cuts and then taken to the ward. Alistair was in SCN for the night and was perfect. Both of us came home 48hrs post birth.

Thanks for sharing your birth story

    Well done and Congratulations

Im surprised they refused the epidural because of your BP. I have high BP issues and they make me have an epidural to help lower my BP during birth and keep me calmer. Strange how different hospitals do different things.
