Quick arrival of Lachlan Anthony Michael

Well I must say this time round was a lot different from the first time round! Total time from first contraction to delivery was just 3hrs 10mins! (a lot quicker than the 10hrs 45mins with his sister).

It was DH first night shift so he left home about 10:30pm to go to work. I tossed and turned for awhile before drifting off. I woke with some strange feelings around 3 then at 3:18am the first contraction hit. I wasn't sure if it was just Braxton Hicks as I'd had them a few nights before. Decided to get up and walk around to see if they went away. Instead they became more frequent & intense. Decided to ring DH at work at around 3:45am. He works 45mins away (but made it home in just 16mins in the wee hours with no traffic!). I rang birthing suite to let them know something was happening then rang my MIL (at 4am) to come look after our DD who was still in bed.

Heading to the hospital felt like the longest trip (when really its less than 10mins with no traffic). We pulled up out the front (had to manuovre around a silly car that decided not to take the first park). Had a contraction walking into the hospital and by the time I reached birthing suite had to stop for another.

We headed straight into a room and I remember looking at the clock at 5:10am and asking the midwife if bub would be here by 6am. She thought so. By the time she did an internal, I was 6cm dilated. After awhile she offered me gas if I wanted (as I'd mentioned that's the only pain relief I had with DD). Whether it helped or not, it made me concentrate on my breathing. I had a medical student in the room who also reminded me a few times to breathe.

Apparently I started to push way to early. Even though my body was telling me too, the doctors and midwives were telling me to breathe through the contractions. Easier said than done! They rolled me on my side for a bit. Apart from having contractions, I was also having crippling pain on the top of my belly. This had me in tears more than the contractions! We still don't know what that was!

After telling me to breathe through the contractions (and I really wasn't co operating much. They were saying this cos I apparently wasn't dilated enough), they rolled me back onto my back and there was bubs head! They then said I could push. So with a few great big painful pushes bubs head was out. He had the cord around his neck but they got it off. DH said he had just his head out for about a minute before his shoulders came.

The one moment I will never forget will be the look on DH face when he saw he was a boy. It puts a smile on my face, even now.

Baby Lachlan Anthony Michael was born 29th March 2012 at 6:28am. He weighed a whopping 9pd 1oz and was 51cm.

Over all it was a lot more painful than DD and I dont think I'll be going back any time soon!!
