    Sam William 07/11/2010

I was so excited when I found out I was pregnant. Even the severe morning/ all day sickness couldn't bring me down. I had dehydration and got fluids at the hospital twice before 2nd tri. Then once I hit 20 weeks started to get BH. I was then told by the doc to take it easy. At 26 weeks while at work I had major contractions. They were a lot stronger then previously. I couldn't even move. My boss was walking past and they rushed me to the hospital. After 2 hours they stopped and I was sent home. The doc now wanted me on bed rest no latter then 30 weeks. I was on restricted duties at work until ML at 29 weeks after bringing it forward. By 30 weeks I didnt go a day without contractions and my doc was trying to decide whether to hospitalise me or not. He said he would decide and let me know what to do the next day. He didnt get a chance. 3.30 am on the 2nd nov I woke having contractions yet again. These were different. They were a lot stronger and getting closer together. I couldnt get comfy I couldnt sleep. By 7.30 am I was well and truly exhausted and started to feel this was it so woke DH and he rushed me to hospital. I had a slow rear rupture. My baby was distressed. His hr went up and they rushed to give me meds to stop the labour and steroids to mature my babys lungs. They raced me to king edward womens hospital. I was taken for an ultrasound and told I would be there until he was born. My contractions had stopped but because my waters broke they told me they may have to deliver him by the end of next week if not before.

The next day I found out my great uncle had passed away while I was in labour. My mum had an operation on the thu that week and I was struggling. I had already missed a funeral for my mums aunt while in hospital. I felt so alone and scared. The doc kept checking on me and told me that my baby will need intensive care and may not survive. I couldnt believe this was happening. I couldnt lose my baby. I wasnt allowed to walk except to the toilet and had to tell a nurse when I went for a shower.

Now the thu 4th nov they stopped all my meds except antibiotics. They said I needed to give birth by next mon or they would have to induce me. My BP had gone up and they were getting concerned about my baby getting an infection. Again the contractions started on and off but not as strong. They didnt progress. Sat I felt great. No contractions all I wanted to do was eat and go for a walk. As they now wanted me to go into labour they said I could walk around the ward if I had company. DH was with me all day but by 4pm I sent him home. He was exhausted and needed a good night sleep. That was a bad move. 5 am sat the 7th nov I woke up and had an urgency about me. I went to the toilet and as I went to go back to bed I felt a huge contraction. I called the nurse I knew straight away this was it. I rang Dh and he was on his way. They hadnt even done and exam and I said I needed to push. They were running me to birthing. I was yelling at them I needed to push. Next thing I know there was people around me and my front waters burst all over the doc. They hadnt even got anything ready. I started to push and they were still telling me no. I couldnt wait for monitors I couldnt wait for paeds to get there. 3 pushes is all it took. He came out screaming. He was blue but was perfect. I didnt get to cuddle him. They had to take him straight away. 15 mins later my DH walked in. He had sped the whole way but still missed it. After being stitched I went down to see him. I didnt want a shower I just wanted my baby boy.

Sam William was born at 6.25 am on the 7th nov 2010. 1420g 44cm long and 29.5cm HC.
    My little miracle baby.

They discharged me the next day because I couldnt handle hearing all the babys and I couldnt even hold mine.

He was on a lot of machines. Giving him oxygen and monitoring him. He was having Brady's (HR drops below 50). He was in hospital for 4 weeks. During that time it took almost a week beore I could hold him.

He came home on the 7th dec. And although we did have to go back for a couple of days he is healthy and happy. He defied the doctors being in perfect health after the ups and downs we had in hospital. He now weighs almost 6kg and is almost 5 months.
