My DS1 was due on the 25th April 2009 (Anzac Day) but he decided to come 3 weeks early...he just couldn't wait anymore!
On Friday the 3rd April 2009 I had some back pain in the morning and then all night I had braxton hicks, Saturday was the calm before the storm and on Sunday afternoon after I had spent 3 hours cleaning out my car and installing the car seat (lucky for me!) my waters broke at about 7.00 PM. I went to the hospital and they said they could induce me or I could go home and see how I progressed, if nothing happened by the Tuesday I was booked in to be induced as my waters had broken I was at risk for infection.
I went home and at about midnight I started to get period type cramps....couldn't sleep so sat downstairs on the birth ball with my Mum and Sister watching telly, then at 6.00AM Monday the 6th April I headed back to the hospital as the cramps were starting to get a bit more painful. They examined me and I was only 1cm dialated, again they said they could induce me or gave me the choice of having a shot of pethadine and going up to the ward to see how I progressed...I chose to go up to the ward with the pethadine.
I had a bit of a doze in the morning then in the afternoon Mum & I paced the ward so I was staying active. I was still getting the cramps all day then at about 3.00PM they were very strong and contractions were about 3-4 minutes apart so we headed down to the birth suite where I was given another shot of pethadine....I sat around on the birth ball and bean bag trying to stay focused.
My active labour started at 6.00PM and I was now in a lot of pain as the pethadine was wearing off, I then found out that my son had turned posterior and I was having agonizing back pain....the midwives offered me sterile water injections, needles that went into my lower back of sterile water....I took them and instantly my back pain went from a 10 to a 0......I then turned my son back around from posterior.
I spent the next few hours in the shower sitting on the birth ball while my Mum poured water all over my back. At 9.00PM I was ready to push but was told I couldn't yet because I wasn't fully dialated, I remember the pressure....against my bum was incredible, like I really needed to go to the toilet....it felt like my bum was hanging inside out......
Finally at about 10.15PM I was able to push horaaaaay the pushing for me wasn't painful at all....and at 11.07 PM Sebastian Jye was born weighing 3466gr and was 54cm long. I had no complications or tearing and all in all had a great labour and birth....I had a mirror so watched what I was doing and saw him being born, it was amazing. Im glad that I didnt end up having any drugs in my active labour because I felt so in control especially when pushing. God did that shower feel good just after I had given birth ahhhhhhh bliss!!!! And then the fun began, welcome to the world my gorgeous little man.
