WOW, fantastic birth story! Thank you for sharing! Congrats on ur little girl and Welcome to the world Hannah!
Hi there
I find that after giving birth, i want to tell everyone all about it - perhaps to keep it forever in my mind. I usually find that not too many people are all that interested - so this is a great place to share - even if it's just for me to read over and over again lol.
I was induced on Wednesday the 29th August - due to high blood pressure. I have been induced with my previous pregnancies for exactly the same reason.
So anyway - here's how it all panned out:
I went into the hospital just after midnight - the midwife took me into the birthing suite and put me on the monitor for 20 minutes. She then inserted the gel and monitored me again for another 20 - 30 minutes. Went into the ward and had a sleep for a few hours.
At 7:30am we went back into the birthing suite. My ob came in and broke my waters (sucked on the gas for that one!) and then put me on the syntocin drip straight away. (all this sitting in my shirt and nothing else but the sheet on) I had bought a nice nightie to give birth in, but the MW suggested a hospital gown and i agreed. (was standing in the nuddie with a surfboard pad between my legs thinking of you all!!!!!) I had to be monitored at all times, so i could see when i was having contractions.
I breathed through the pain, and as they got stronger i clenched my toes and then pushed down on the bed. (the midwife would come in and talk to me, and she said 'every time i see you smiling i'm going to turn up the drip!!!! - she was a hoot!)
At about 9:15am the contractions started to get quite ouchy - i'd been trying to be quiet - as there were other women in other rooms, but towards the end i thought' - 'stuff it!!'. I held off the gas for quite a while. The midwife kept telling me that she thought bubs would be born by lunch time. That was wonderful to hear. At about 10:30am i told her i felt like i needed to go to the toilet (number 2's) she told me she'd do an internal first. I was only 3cm dilated. bugger!!! Didn't end up going to the toilet.
At 11am i was 6cm dilated, and she said i'd have about an hour to go. By this stage i was sucking as hard as i could on the gas, and an hour was seeming to be a very long time!!! Then about 10 minutes later i had an overwhelming urge to push. From here everything went so fast. The midwife was on the phone to my ob telling him to get ready. Meanwhile i'm pushing my little heart out! (they had to call him back and tell him to hurry!) I was laying on the bed, holding the back rail with one hand and i had my top half hanging over the side of the bed. they wanted me to sit up, but that was how i was going to give birth. I was pushing, and the midwives were telling me to stop and to breathe (it was like the movies lol.) I was yelling 'i can't!!!". They were telling me to wait for my ob and i said "do we really need him? - can't you guys just do it!!!? They were telling me again to stop pushing and breathe - very hard to do - my dh had the gas mouthpiece in my mouth trying to make me suck it. one midwife got in my face and said "if you don't breathe through this one you'll tear!" Well, i tried to my hardest then.
Anyway ob walked throught the door and out popped little Hannah Rose. What a wonderful moment. They put her on my chest straight away - and she still looked absolutely gorgeous even though she was covered in vernex. My next question was 'did i tear?" and thankfully the answer was no. A couple of very tiny - and pain free- pushes later , the placenta was out. I had a look at it this time around - as i was very 'with it'. Hannah got a very high APGAR score and was suckling at my breasts straight away.
She then had her vitamin k injection while i had a nice long, hot shower.
Some might say that because i was induced it wasn't a natural birth. But for me it was the most natural experience ever, and i still feel like a Warrior Princess!!!
We then went back to the Maternity ward and got comfy - i had to share for the first night , but afterwards got the 'presidential suite'. It was lovely - just like staying in a resort.
When my roommate came in that afternoon- i said that i hoped i wasn't scaring her when i was in labour. She laughed and said i was screaming quite loudly and that she was getting a little worried. (lucky for her my labour only lasted a short time lol)
