MONDAY 8/2/2010
9pm i was admitted to the birthing ward to be monitored, bub was fine heart rate good, movements frequent.
930pm - the prostin gel was inserted, and i had to stay laying down for an hour so they hooked me back up to monitor, Bubs movements still good heart rate fine.
1030pm- admitted to maternity ward, Dh stayed overnight with me.
Tuesday 9/2/2010
woke at 6, felt no different, had a shower. Ob came in and did internal i was 2cm dilated, another 2mg of prostin was inserted (prostin was done on maternity ward as all birth suite were full!), i again had to lay down for an hour and hooked up to monitor. with in about 10 minutes of gel going in Bubs heart rate dropped to 85 and came back up then kept fluctuating between 160 and 85.
8am - i was sent to labor ward and made nil by mouth incase hb kept dropping and i needed general and a c-section. I was having what felt like period pains (tho they were contractions and about 7 mins apart)as they were only the lower part of my uterus and never going higher then belly button height and radiated around the back - as they were low the part of the monitor that registers contractions didnt move! I had to remain in bed on a monitor which really didnt help the pain. I got a heat pack at about 9 and that took almost 100% of back pain away. Hear rate got as low at 65 and kept fluctuating. The ob was called on multiple occassions. The middies were fantastic and kept trying to prepare me incase i needed a c-section. The ob said he was happy to wait a while longer. (Oh and i was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia during the morning). I was nauseated and vomited a few times (hmm i thought morning sickness for almost the whole preg was bad enough).
11am internal 3-4cm dilated, waters broken and nothing came out! bubs head was right down and blocking it escaping. A monitor was put directly onto her head to make sure the hb we were seeing was hers and not mine. she didnt enjoy that at all! The most painful part was by far the waters getting broken! by about 1130 i was using the gas at 30%. I dry reached a few times mostly when i inhaled and forgot to exhale so accumulated gas!
1pm - the Ob came in and said, we need to get bub out i'm sorry it will need to be emergency c-section... he also asked if i had a paediatrician and anaesthetist that i wanted to use.. i said no i wasn't expecting to need them. I got "prep'd" ( shaved basically!) by the nurse.
120ish they had found a theatre (had to use main operating suites as all birthing ors were in use), i was getting prep'd for an epidural, the anaesthetist couldnt get that in and we went with spinal- i was sitting on the edge of the bed, leaning forward holding onto a random male nurse who was fantastic letting me squeeze him with each contraction! Spinal went in with 100mcg of fentanyl and 10mg morphine.
They did the ice test. then put up the screen, the anaesthetist stayed at my head and stroked my hair and monitored the drugs. Hubby was sitting at my side looking very worried, and some other random nurse was using our camera to capture it all. My ob mentioned it may feel like he is currently doing the dishes in my insides as all i could feel was movements and no pain. Then at 1336 was told "its a little girl" i teared up, I was also told she had passeda bowel movement, the curtain come down i had the ****ty end facing me and hubby got the cute face!
She was taken to the heat light and the ped did his checks 9dad never left her side!), she was wrapped and brought back to me for a very quick pat basically, then dad and bub were whipped off to NICU. i had to get cleaned out, stitched and glued up, my catherter was put in. i was then sent to recovery upset and hoping my baby was fine.
3pm i was taken to NICU to see bub and hubby, i got all the details - weight 2.5kg, 47cm long h/c 31.7cm. i got to pat her again she was in an oxygen crib. I was taken back to maternity by myself!
i called ppl and gave the info, mum came up to sit with me. Hubby came back at 4pm we decided on a name and bub was still to be monitored at room air for an hour, at 5pm hubby went back to NICU and him and a nurse excorted her back and i picked her up and its been hard to put her down ever since!

BTW - how many weeks gestation was your bub when she was born? (She was almost exactly the same size as mine - just because they're small doesn't necessarily make the birth any easier, does it?)![]()
Congratulations! She looks divine!
Well done and Congratulations
Awesome bday, thats my little girls bday![]()
Congratulations and thanks for sharing - she has a very pretty name![]()
Hey TTC it was great to read your whole story.
That is so funny that your first sight of Lauryn was a dirty brown-eye!! LOL!
You did great and it sounds like things went exactly the way they needed to go to have your petite little lady out safe and sound.
Congrats again! xo
Great to hear your birth story!
It's funny you say your contractions didn't go higher than your belly button, and didn't register on the monitor, my contractions didn't go higher than say my hip bone and didn't register on the monitor either, and I had to have a c-section too!
Congrats on your beautiful bubs xx
