im not there yet but id say it depends on the baby i know a little boy who just turned 1 and hes only having one BF a day
OK, so I need a little memory refreshing! 12yrs is a long time inbetween bubbas to remember
Just wanted to see what the average number of BF per day and solids per day for Carmelo's age would be? He was 8 months yesterday.
Before starting solids at 6 months, he was BF every 3hrs, at present he seems to have stretched out to approx every 4 hrs, but the past few weeks we're really just demand feeding.
I just want to make sure he's getting as much as he needs... I don't want the solid meals to take over as I know that breastmilk should be the main source of food for the first 12 months.
The past week he has been waking overnight repeatedly - he's unsettled from what I think is mostly teething, and I know 8 months is a huge milestone for growth & development.
As far as solid foods go, he's having some cereal in the morning (plus either fruit or toast via BLS) and steamed veggies mixed with either chicken, tuna, pasta or rice for dinner.
He might chew on a rusk during the day, and sometimes a little water in a sippy cup.
He's not on the breast for long each feed (5-10mins and with distractions) but my breasts always feel full (and leak) before each feed, and always feel well drained when he's done, despite the lack of time on there! My supply seems as good as ever.
He's gaining weight (weighing him roughly every 2 weeks) so I'm not concerned that he's not thriving.... mainly just wanted to see what the average number of BF and Solids per day was for this age & when the BF starts to stretch out (Im not ready, lol)
I cannot for the life of me remember from Luke 12 yrs ago
Thanks in advance![]()

J man has two boobie feeds and two bottle feeds (EBM or formula) a day, and BLS 1-3 times per day on top.
He'll sometimes get another bottle during the day, if he needs it.

sounds like you are doing a great job and the key thing I read was that you are demand feeding, he is demanding it. My DS was a very frequent feeder and would feed every 2/3 hrs even at 8 mnths but that was probably more snacking then feeding cause he would literally be done in 2 mins. At your DS age he is now a pro and very efficient so it is not surprising he isn't taking that long to feed now.
My little one prob feeds 6 times during the day and 3-4 overnight. I feed her when she wants/needs it and some days are more. We are also doing BLS.
My little one feeds around 10 times in the day and 3-4 times overnight. We are also doing BLS.
Hi hun,
We're doing a mix of BLS and some puree here as well as still bf and 1 formula bottle.
Logan will have a bf when he wakes, then cereal and some fruit a bit later
Have a bf 'snack' about 3-4hrs later, Have a snooze
Have a full bf when waking up, lunch about an hr later
Another bf after his afternoon nap
Dinner around 5pm
Formula bottle around 6:45pm then it's off to bed
Basically 2 bf's, 1 'snack', 1 formula bottle and 3 meals in a day!
He also did the 5 nights of waking up right around the 8month mark, pretty sure there's a wonder week around here!

I think we were around 8-12 in 24hrs when DD was that age. I decided to start cutting some of her feeds though coz she spent far too long just comfort sucking. Sounds to me like you are doing a great job.
FWIW if its anything to go by DD still gets 4-7 BFs in 24hrs depending on how she goes at night. She can empty a side in 2-5 min and spends alomst a little too long just comfort sucking.
Hi Holly
This is what Darcie does....but it changes every day, I'm not really in much of a 'routine'.....
wakes up EARLY (this morning 4:50am) I would have tried to boob her to go back to sleep that early, but she's not really interested...is more interested in flailing around the bed like a fish out of water
No food...then a nap about 1.5 hours after she wakes (right now!)
Wakes up has breakfast....fruit and yoghurt with maybe some cereal mixed in, plays around for a while then will have a BF then go to sleep for another nap
Wakes up again....plays around, then when Max is having lunch, she will have something too, like Doodlebug, we are doing a mixture of BLS and puree...today she'll have risotto!
Another nap...if I'm lucky or driving!
Then another meal about 4:30-5pm, then it's bath, BF and bed....
Oh and in amongst that she will have water from her cup and a snack if she wants it....usually a rusk...I think she's starting to teethe too
She tells you what she wants when she wants it.....we are out and about a lot in this limbo state, so nothing is set in stone around here....so I guess she'd have maybe 3 BF during the day, 3 solid meals, then will be BF during the night once or twice....she is in bed with me so I just roll over and there ya go! I'm half asleep when I'm feeding her so TBH I don't keep count!
It varies a great deal. DS was having 10+ at that age- he didn't drop any feeds till 11 months
At that age DD1 was about 4 feeds a day with 3 solids, DD2 was about 6-7 feeds and only about 1 proper meal with maybe a tiny snack.
Lady P is 10 months and has roughly about 4-5 booby feeds a day. She is sleeping through so no feeding over night and has 3 meals a day and snacks too but loves her booby.
This isnt set in stone of course and somedays its more some days its less.
Loula, she feeds like a newborn. Still not hugely interested in solids but we're getting there.
Thanks girls for the reassurance![]()
