Oh yeah, I was also going to say that babies don't mind a hard mattress (that is normal, soft ones might not be safe) but they often dislike sleeping alone. The night after DS1 was born he cried whenever he was put in the bassinette thing and the midwife called it "white sheet fever". She put him in bed with me and told me that a warm mum cures it - and it did!! Co-sleeping usually is a great way for both bub and parents to get more sleep. Just follow the safe sleeping guidelines and you'll be fine - breastfeeding mums naturally sleep in a safe position with their baby, it's an instinct thing.

While we are on the topic, this is interesting to me. I think it's worth a thread of it's own if some-one could be bothered (but I was up all night with my teenage babies - taking them to parties/picking them up)

Objective Our purpose was to explore maternal actigraphically measured sleep, subjective sleep reports, and daytime functioning on the basis of current feeding method status during postpartum weeks 2 through 12.
Methods Objectively measured total sleep time, sleep efficiency, and fragmentation, subjectively reported numbers of nocturnal awakenings, total nocturnal wake time, and sleep quality, and sleepiness/fatigue measured by using the fatigue visual analog scale, the Stanford Sleepiness Scale, or the Epworth Sleepiness Scale were assessed.
Results We did not find differences between women who were exclusively breastfeeding, exclusively formula feeding, or using a combination of the 2 methods, with respect to the assessed parameters.

thats intersting Bard, i think people are quick to switch from BF to FF thinking that it will solve the problems but only to find it makes no difference and by then its too late to switch back!! thats exactly what happened to a friend of mine only a few weeks ago, its sad and now she is upset that she is no longer BFing and the problems are still there...and then some!
