My DD currently BF every 3 hours during the day and I can normally get one 4-5 hour gap during the night. But she is only on the boob for 5-15 minutes and she's had enough.
I always change her nappy between boobs and burp her for a minumn of 10 min due to reflux but when I put her to the other side she only nibbles.
Is anyone else experiencing something like this? I know she is putting on weight normally and she has plenty of dirty nappies (poo and wee), but I keep thinking she needs to be on longer.
As a first time mum and knowing only 1 other person who has BF their child, I feel like I am making mistakes.
You're doing great mama! That frequency sounds about right
Remember babies go through nursing frenzies when they are going through growth spurts!! So you might see an increase in BFig frequency when this happens
THey're all different. some take aaaaages to feed (and your nurse would be berating you for letting her comfort suck ) and some are very quick. So long asyou're getting a good number of wet & dirty nappies and other things seem fine, then it's all good. Most of the time, if you feed your baby when your baby wants to be fed, it all works out right.
The thing about babies is; they change all the time! (just to keep us on our toes!) So the info you got from the midwives was about right for a newborn, just on their Lplates, but she's really fabulous at breastfeeding now and can guzzle down a breast in minutes flat - all perfectly normal.
My hot tip. Join the Australian breastfeeding Association (Australian Breastfeeding Association) they are a great support and a great way to meet other breastfeeding mums. In all areas they have groups who will have regular get togethers. They are infomal and easygoing - and great
