Breastfeeding Chatter #18
Hello everyone thought I'd pop in and get a feel for bf with my bubba due in a couple weeks although this is number 2 all going well will be my first bf baby I have been antenatally expressing for a week now and have already found my boobs have their own personality lol right is ready to go straight away but left takes about 5mins when right starts slowing down does that stay the same with bf or will they change their habits the LC has already said that dd will prefer right just by looking at it and that side seems to produce more

Ok after some ideas here! My right nipple is still really tender (lefty is fine) it almost feels harder and it's painful on and off throughout the day.
I am not sure it's an attachment issue as it doesn't appear cracked or damaged. Sometimes when she finishes feeding on that side the actual nipple appears white like there is no blood flow to it? Not sure how else to describe it.
I find that when it's painful if I squeeze and stretch it then it feels better. I know I have less supply on that side and she has always favored lefty more. I usually start with the right side as I know it's going to hurt.
Any ideas?

Joeve, sounds like vasospasm maybe? Check out Kellymom website for blanching and vasospasm :)

Thanks! Yes sounds just like that thank you!

Sometimes my right nipple would get a little white patch too but I don't think I have or had that... Unless it can occur in varying degrees. I did have ongoing problems with that side in terms of pain for a good while though but for me I think it was delayed healing and over time the nip became more resilient.

Thanks LL. The description on Kelly mom is exactly it for me. I think maybe she has more of a shallow latch on that side so have been trying to get her on better and it feels a bit better already!

Don't quote me on it but I was under the impression that the amount of colostrum you produce while pregnant had no bearing on how your supply will be postnatally. Your LC is saying she can tell which breast is going to produce more milk and that your new baby will prefer that side? I didn't know that was possible?

No last time I expressed after baby was born when my milk came in I always had more milk on right side, LC says baby will prefer right purely based on nipple shape compared to left

Chody you are doing great and your little premie is thriving on your milk and care. It's great you are coming in here for support to continue your BF relationship. How's the reflux?

Hi girls
Just joining in for a chat :)
DS will be six weeks on Saturday. So far our breastfeeding journey has been a challenge. Mastitis at 10 days, bleeding damaged nipples, thrush on boobs and oral thrush for DS! But I battled through the pain and now am feeding pain free, yay!
Still using nipple shield for now as I'm so sleep deprived I'm not quite ready to teach DS how to attach again. But looking to do it soon...

Yay Mrs P! It's great when it all starts to fall into place and you can enjoy BF. I hope attachment goes well.
Re: Breastfeeding Chatter #18
so Spock has started to put her finger or thumb in her mouth whilst shes feeding... its when she is really snuggly and sleepy, but um worried what this will do to my nipple. I take my nipple out and hpe she will keep just sucking her thumb but nope, complains and want the bob again

well when she does it she is only comfort sucking. so only really is holding it in her mouth or just doing little half sucks anyway itms.
if they dont hurt it should be right? Right?

Miss G gets so excited about boob atm. She can be over the other side if the room and when she sees me make a move towards feeding, she comes tearing over, giggling the whole way, either with her tongue hanging out or smacking her lips. E doesn't get quite as excited but everything waves and she does this little hyperventilation thing. So darn cute ;)
If anyone told me that we would still be going strong bf twins at 9 months plus, I'd never have believed them but we love it :)
