i know there is SUGAR free chocolate available. i wonder if there is LACTOSE free chocolate? You need SOMETHING to have a bit of a treat!

Yes there is!!! The brand is Sweet William. It doesnt taste as good as Cadurys but it is ok. It should be in the gluten free section of your supermarket. Trust me to know all about the lactose free choc :rolleyes: The lactose free Tim Tams are called Choculence and they are nice.

Green - hun :hug: I know what you mean about being on your own. It's not fun but you will be fine. Make sure you ask mum/MIL to take DS for cuddles when you aren't feeding (they will gladly oblige) so that you can have some time for yourself too. What are you using for the thrush? I found the daktarin Gel was the best to put on my nipples when Leah was tiny. The Nilstat was too hard to get to stay on my bbs. Have a chat to your chemist and see what they say. Most important thing is to treat both of you at the same time. What sling are you using? I have a dodgy back and I found the HAB great in the early days, and now we use the ergo all the time. My physio was happy with the HAB, and the first time I walked without my frame post birth Leah was in the HAB.

Shanti, I can't believe the MCHN said that! Makes me angry when so called health professionals give out wrong information.

Today I have a fussy baby. She has been very squirmy when feeding, kicking out her legs and waiving her top arm around. She will also shake her head which results in her coming off followed by more frantic nuzzling to get back on. Then she promptly falls asleep but wakes up and cries if I take her off and put her down. It's quite frustrating because it doesn't feel like she's had a proper feed. Is this normal for an 8 week old?

I know I havent been too active here but I thought Id post to say Stellan and I are loving and leaving you; he decided 11mths was a great effort and has refused booby for the last 3 days. Im a bit sad but also relieved in a way; he's been sleeping better since he stopped and its lessened pressure on me with Uni and stretching myself thin for everyone. Not to mention NORMAL bra's and tops that I dont have to get my boobs out of in 5 seconds :rofl:

So thankyou for sharing our journey with us; if it wasnt for the advice and support Ive read here in this thread I probably would have given up awhile ago.

Alioops - I did the same thing. I also told him to remind me of things that I may forget in my tiredness. It seemed to work. He sat up with me the first few nights whilst feeding for moral support. It really helped.
Even now I find some night feeds lonely without him being awake lol!

Gigi - I birthed my first daughter in a pro-breastfeeding hospital too. They were all for it... Til the night shift came on. And thats when most of the feeds were too. So wasn't a good combo.
I totally agree, BB has been an amazing source of information. I joined after Munchkin was born when she was diagnosed with reflux.
I must admit I haven't signed up for ABA yet, but its on my list of things do. I meant to do it before Nao was born, but time got away from me. Theres a few groups here that meet, I should try to go to one or two of them.
Will also check out their podcasts. I didn't know about them, thanks!

Greenslw - Sorry to hear things are so rough for you. :hug: We will all be here for you to talk to during those three weeks. It's only a little thing, but might make it a wee bit easier.

alioops ta for lactos free choc sugestions. I'm using 'goldbug' sling atm but will get a more upright one soon, ok for back, better than holding and he's like a pea in a pod which is working for him and his wind.

Eluned I had a fussy feeder too maybe it's the moon?

ATM had a mega windy baby, it's dairy. I had yogurt for breakfast and it's all my fault :cry: So no more dairy. for now even if the nurse didn't think that was the issue, it's part of it for sure.

Linc was fussy today too but I think it's due to the wind. On off on off left right left right, nap up cry wind pooo OMG! so into the sling after a good feed and not getting out till 10pm he missed a nap today and I think is very over tired which isn't help.

Baught a mechanical swing to try putting him in, why don't they make mechanical rocking bassinets? oh well will try anything to help pass the wind and save my mind.

Greenslw - we have a swing and it has been fantastic. Our bassinet has a vibrating base but the batteries only lasted 2 days! So we don't bother with the vibrating or even the bassinet! LOL...DD is usually in bed with me :)

Hi Ladies just popped in to say ta ta for now. Might be back with another DD or DS later.
Linc is lactos intolerant and while cutting dairy out of my diet has helped he's still windy and unsettled. Pead suggested soy formula. or keep going with BF but things may not improve.

Linc decided not to take my left breast for the last two days and this morning he was screaming in hungre and wouldn't take it. That was the last straw, I put him on soy formula and he slept in his own bed and seams so much happier.

I feel so sad to end the BF but it's the right time for me.

Greenslw, I am so sorry that you are still having such a hard time. Lactose intolerance in babies is a very misunderstood area, and a lot of the medical advice that is given out is incorrect. Have a look at this article - Australian Breastfeeding Association - Lactose intolerance and the breastfed baby - from the ABA website. It's written by a dietician who specialises in the area and is very interesting.

I really hope, however you end up feeding, that things settle down soon for you, and you are able to get some rest.

:hug: Well done on making it to 12 months Green!!! He should be able to tolerate low lactose things like cheese and yoghurt, but has a very low tolerance. He has been able to tolerate BM enough to thrive on it. You have done a great job, now go and eat some real chocolate and celebrate with a glass of milk.

I can't remember the last time DD did a 'decent' poo... she did a little one last Thursday and a little one today (both were just smears on the disposable nappy) - she is 7 months old tomorrow and has been slightly irritable behaviour wise but I think the main issue is that she has started swallowing bits of solids (we are doing BLS)

Today's poo seemed to have 'bits' in it - I think they were the black seeds from some banana.

We have tried deep baths, massage and cycling legs. She hasn't been a fart machine (which she usually is just before she goes when it has been a couple of days).

I know it is normal for BF bubs to go longer between motions... just after some reassurance :(

:dance: DD did a decent poo today!! I think it was definitely the more swallowing of foods that held it up!

It was such a relief (for both her and I) when it was passed today!!

Yay on the poo tk ;) I remember DS went 10 days between poos once and I was so worried. My goodness when he finally went it was not pretty lol. DD goes every couple of days.

Well, a few days ago DD went on a feeding frenzy and yesterday morning I woke up with engorged boobs and lumps. Boy did it feel good once she fed. We co-sleep so she feeds in bed and I think after a proper feed she just snacks and it's boosting my supply just a bit too much! So got over that engorgement yesterday and today it happened again because she slept from 9pm until 4am! She missed her 2am feed.

Other than that it's all going great. I've had a few times where DS has asked for a drink. I offered once to him and he just kind of looked at me as if to say "what happens now? where's the milk?" LOL I think he has forgotten how!

Oh yeh plenty of tiny FF babies around, it makes me kind of feel sick inside, coz I think it's mostly due to subconscious brainwashing. I mean, American movies, things like pacifiers, and I don't know about anyone else, but my Mum and all her friends keep telling me that she 'needs a dummy' and 'she needs a bottle as well as breast' and 'why aren't you feeding her water'. If it wasn't for internet, I would probably have listened to them. It's just so sad for a baby to miss out on booby time, when they all clearly really love it and I think they definitely need it. I plan to breastfeed for as long as possible and I too will breastfeed wherever, whenever.

Just thought I'd pop in to say hi. Not much news from us..... BF going really great.... DD has been OBSESSED with 'boo-bee' more than usual the last few weeks.... pulls my top down in public in front of others :redface: all the time, says 'boo-bee' alot in front of others and ppl have noticed haha but its so cute they all laugh.... pretty funny.
We visited a friend yesterday with her 4wk old little bub! Got a hold... awww so tiny!! 3.2kg!! And DD saw her feeding and then started asking for her 'boo-bee' so i gave her a feed, pretty cute!! She didn't want to miss out hehe

We moved DD from our bed (she is getting waaay too big now!) and into a side car arrangement next to our bed with her cot. DH took the side of the cot down and we've got it pushed against our bed, its awesome and I'm having better sleeps the last few nights because i have more room and noone kicking me in the head anymore :rolleyes:

Hope everyone is going well..... that's about all from us! I can't believe we've been feeding for 13mths+ now!!!!! :dance: amazing!!!

Shanti - congratulations on getting to 13 months! yeh you!

it IS worth celebrating (in a culture, where it is the "norm" to formula feed). SO to buck that trend and pressure, it IS something to celebrate. I don't know your individual bf-ing circumstances, but it can also be something to celebrate, in terms of getting past actual physical bf-ing hurdles (like attachment, mastitis, tongue tie, all sorts of things mums and babies go thru).

Forums and threads like this, are where i found my own personal cheer squad, which psychologically, i needed, in order to keep going. I needed it - to counter the anti-bf-ing pressure i got from medical professionals, strangers, child care workers, other mums i came into contact with at playgroups etc.

As a parent of a young child, you're often sleep deprived and tired in general, so that negativity affected me in ways, that normally i would have coped with (pre-baby), but in my sleep depived state, DID affect me. Thank goodness for the ABA, La Leche etc online, and belly belly bf-ing threads like this one. I'm sure different things work for different people, i just had to find my own answer.

Gigi - exactly right! In today's world... it is rare (unfortunately) for most babies still feeding at 13mths hey? Such a shame.... so many babies missing out on BM and further benefits after 12mths!

I'm also glad like you that there is this BF support section here on BB because it too helped save our BF journey in those early weeks and months (we had probs for first 4mths) and besides the LC I hired and ABA group meetings, this BF chatter and support threads saved us from going to FF!! oh and heaps of persistence to get thru it all LOL!!!!

Shanti, that is great to reach 13 months!!! DS made it to 14.5 when he self-weaned because I was pregnant. I was sad but at the same time so very proud because of all the hard work we did to make it work when my supply was next to nothing and then be able to ditch the comp feeds and go back to fully breastfeeding.

I hope DD feeds longer than that. So far we are just going great I just can't believe it at times it's working! We demand feed and feed to sleep and I often get comments like "oh she's feeding again?" or "she feeds so much does she need it?" I just shrug my shoulders and say "meh it works for us! She's happy, I'm happy!"

We are counting down to the big 12months... 4 sleeps!
