Hi, I have a 4 month old daughter, Im a first time mum and new to belly belly.
Looking for some breast feeding support and guidence with my daughters behaviour to see if the below is normal.
During all feeding times (even 2am) she grunts and and pulls of the boob and turns bright red. Her tummy goes hard and she pulls and arches her back during feed times but she does not cry.
This is scaring me, I have tried to take her off the boob for a little break and then keep going, however she cries after I have taken her off, to get back on asap. After each feed she burps and seems okay, however every feed it now becoming stressful and upsetting. She also has extremely smelly wind and fluffs very often, her bowl moments are once in three days. Other than this she is a happy heathly baby who loves to play and smile all day.
I would love to hear from anyone with some suggestions and/or help with my daughters feeding issues.
Aww hun i am not 100% sure but it sounds as though your LO might have a belly ache, the arching of the back and pulling up of legs def suggests to me it's something to do with her tummy.
There are quite a few things you can try to assist with releasing that wind so it doesn't build up, i'm sure the ladies can make some good suggestions for you, i had to use infacol with DD1 for a while.. even though she was a good burper she was holding a lot in.
Does she take a dummy, sometimes the sucking action can help release some air aswell.
BF babies can go days without a bowel movement, as long as she has plenty of wet nappies and the dirty ones aren't a strange color, are they still that mustard yellow?

Have you been eating any spicy foods? I'm not sure what they all are, but cabbage & spicy foods can give bub's a bit more of a belly ache if you're eating them. Possibly its something like that?

Try allowing her to really really finish the first boob before giving her the next one. I'm wondering if she has got stronger and sucks harder and is almost frightening herself with the squirts!
If you can try and relax physically yourself you will also find it easier.
How often is she feeding? And 1 side or 2 each feed? And is she gaining weight and weeing happily?
Is your nipple still round after each feed, or is it a strange shape??
I think you should pick a quiet time for you and call the ABA helpline on 1800 mum2mum and have a chat to an expert - I don't actually think you have a major problem, but some reassurance and suggestions on how to improve matters wouldn't go astray,
I wonder about your diet too. but if it is only happening whilst you are feeding maybe your let down is too quick for her? Or maybe you could try releasing some of her wind before each feed. peddling her legs or pushing her knees into her tummy in a circular motion. Also are you sure that she is hungry when u fed her? does she go long between feeds or is she asking to feed cos it comforts her when she has belly pain? Sorry lots of questions. I hope you work it out. I have been feding now for 10 1/2 months and I have had small issues but you are doing the right thing by asking for help. Mummies are smart and I hope that someone has a suggestion that helps
