This MAY be a silly question but I honestly have no idea.
Can you express colostrum prebirth and freeze it? Will it affect how early your milk comes in??
When dd was born I had a hard time in the first month bfing and while I continued to bf I mix fed from probably 2 weeks old.
It all started as soon as she was born, I was sick in the hours after birth (uncontrollable vomiting) and for the 3 days I was there the midwives expressed for me without showing or letting me try myself. It was horribly invasive on my personal space and deflating to my confidence. They had me do one bf before going home to check she had latched ok and still I was bruised, bleeding and blistered by the time the home midwife visited the next day, she was appalled.
So if I can I would like to express and store even small amounts of colostrum. We live 5 mins from the hospital so dh can bring it in if needed. But does it retain the nutrients and antibodies ok?? Is it worth trying?? Will it keep ok like breastmilk for a few weeks in the freezer??
