    Help - lactation cookies

Don't you just wish you had a scratch and sniff computer??

But my question is, I made some lactation cookies for Glenny and they don't taste that great. They are 'I'm going to die bad' but they aren't yum.

I followed the bb recipe to the letter and used four tablespoons of the brewers yeast.

Do they get better as they cool?

The mouthfuls with the choc chips taste ok, should I just used more. I've oh cooked one batch so the bowls full.

    Help

When I made mine last (going to start again soon) I chucked in the whole pack of choc chips - more than recipe said but otherwise followed recipe (although after the first time round I weighed ingredients so I didn't have to squash stuff into my measuring cups)

Hmmm were your very sweet? I used more than a cup of white choc chips?

I think I taste the yeast???

Choc chip biscuit sweet but not too much however I used either milk choc or dark choc. (230g pack Cadbury brand)
I did do a variation fairly frequently by substituting sultanas for choc or a combo of choc & sultanas.

I did just about kill my hand mixer mixing the cookies. Have since swapped to mixing in the kitchenaid (and that's slow going too) - maybe the yeast hasn't mixed through enough

My recipe only recommends 2 tablespoons of yeast. I got a bit yeast happy last night and put 3 in and they aren't the best tasting. I'd hate to taste 4 spoons :/

Eta: I use 1 cup of no frills choc chip. I'll pm my recipe if you like?

this is the recipe I use and (and have made notes about changes on it - printed for friends a few times) - I got this off here somewhere

Housepoet’s Famous Lactation Boosting Oatmeal, Chocolate Chip & Flaxseed cookies
    Serves: 6 dozen cookies
    Preparation time: 15 minutes
    Ingredients:
    • * 1 cup butter (~240g) or marg(~230g)
    • * 1 cup sugar
    • * 1 cup brown sugar
    • * 4 tablespoons water
    • * 2 tablespoons flaxseed meal (can be found at any local health food store) (also called Linseed meal)
    • * 2 large eggs
    • * 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • * 2 cups flour
    • * 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • * 1 teaspoon salt
    • * 3 cups oats, thick cut if you can get them
    • * 1 cup or more chocolate chips
    • * 2 tablespoons of brewers yeast (be generous) (IT MUST BE BREWERS YEAST, NO SUBSTITUTIONS)
    Directions:
    • * Preheat oven at 375 degrees F (190C).
    • * Mix together 2 tablespoons of flaxseed meal and water, set aside for 3-5 minutes.
    • * Cream (beat well) margarine and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, mix well.
    • * Stir flaxseed mixture and add with vanilla to the margarine mix. Beat until blended.
    • * Sift together dry ingredients include yeast, except oats and chips. Add to margarine mixture. Stir in oats then chips.
    • * Scoop or drop onto baking sheet, preferably lined with parchment or silpat. The dough is a little crumbly, so it helps to use a scoop.
    • * Bake 8-12 minutes, depending on size of cookies. (Approx 25 – 30 min for slice size)
I make mine into 2 slices, just make sure the slice is no thinker than a cookie. It’s quicker and easier that way, especially with kiddies running around

You don’t have to use choc chips – I’ve used a combination of choc chips & sultanas, choc chips & crushed nuts or straight choc chips, straight sultanas. You can use whatever you like instead of the choc chips.

    They are ok.

My dad just ate FOUR, we'll see if he gets milk

I have never made them. But flaxseed has a distinct taste too.

I reckon you can never have too many choc chips in anything! You could also add some ginger or peanut butter to help.

Youre lovely for making them for Glenny x

Getting a bit yeast-happy can give them a bit of zing. I just put in extra strong flavours to cover it. Hazelnut meal is a good one, or dried apricots.

They're really not as bad as you made out Tegam!! I quite like them, I think it helps that you told me not to expect really sweet cookies but I like them. Thanks for making them for me hon. I'll let you know if they work!!!
