    breastfeeding and periods

I'm exclusively breastfeeding and my daughter is 4 mnths. Is it normal for your period to return this early? I am not on any pill at all.

I have just finished my first AF so it was about 8 months for me and I'm still breast feeding. Everyone is so different. I know some women who get it within 6 weeks or not for years.

It's true it really is different for everyone.
I've known some poor souls who've got it back at 8 weeks even though they were exclusively breastfeeding.
I only just got mine back today! And DS is 15 months old. I'm not happy to see it either LOL.

If you are exclusively bfing (no formula or solids) and are feeding through the night, it is less likely to come back. But it happens. For me she appeared after 7 months with Jack (who slept through the night from 6 weeks) and after 6 months with Tom (who was night feeding until 1yo)! I think sometimes it's the luck of the draw. But you are not abnormal to get it back so quickly, just a bit unlucky!

First time AF returned at 8weeks and this time around she rocked up when DD#2 was 4 months. Lol! Both my girls were exclusively bf and I also didn't go back on any pills etc.

I'm sooo annoyed! I just assumed that BF and no pill meant a long time without AF!!! Oh well - have to live with it I spose! It's funny how you read a thousand things but still don't know everything - well you know what I mean - I had no idea it would come back so soon!

    Hi,

It's the early side of things - it's bad luck, for sure, but within the bounds of normal. All bets are now off re contraception, so you had better make plans for that.

I got my first AF between 6 - 8 weeks. I think that it came from a combination or going on the mini-pill and having the night feed drop. I got my next AF 2 weeks ago, so its not been regular! I also think this is cause I didnt breastfeed much over the weekend of my wedding. I also expect AF to come in 2 weeks cause I'm doing a course this weekend and the next so cant really feed or express!!

It was a bugger cause I too thought I would go months and months without it, but it all depends on the person, and atleast mine havent been heavy!

Veronica I am so jealous that your AF isn't heavy. Mine never was but I have just had my first and it was so incredibly heavy and painful I couldn't believe.

Mine returned at 5 1/2 weeks this time. Thankfully it has been relatively light also. After Marieke was born, my first period (about 2 months PP) was really heavy. I couldn't go anywhere.
I am also exclusively breast feeding.
