Hi everyone
my dd is 5 weeks old tomorrow and I am bridesmaid in a wedding tomorrow and will be away from her from 2pm till probably midnight. She will only be 5 minutes away but it may not be practical to leave the wedding tofeed her or have her brought to depending on when she needs a feed. I have got 400ml of EBM stored for her, two of the bottles are frozen from when I had too much early on and expressed some for comfort and to settle my BBs down, so they will have to be used first theres 300ml there, and I got another 100ml this morning.
Do you think this will be enough? Or should I pump some more?
TIA
Personally, I hate expressing so I would say that's enough Make sure you store the milk in 50ml batches as she may not drink very much at a time and it saves the carer throwing away excess milk.
I'd suggest getting her brought to you for at least one feed in that time - it's a long time to go without a proper feed, especially if she decides not to take the bottle and needs to be cup or spoon fed.
Make sure you take the pump with you for your own comfort too!
We were at a wedding a few weeks ago where I was bridesmaid, it was a few hours from home but my parents came half way through it. The first part dh looked after her and kept her happy until I was ready to feed her, the second half my parents took her and called when she needed a feed and I met them half way when it was appropriate for me..
I hate expressing too.. but only because Harlee still wont take a bottle!
I agree with Snacks...whilst your EBM supply seems sufficient, you might be absolutely exploding by 7pm !!!. Im sure you will get a quiet 15 mins or so where you can go to another room and feed baby. GL.
I agree that sounds like enough, although if it is already in bottles then some might be wasted as she might not drink it all in one go and it has to be discarded once she's started it. Storing in small batches is a great tip to reduce wastage. Also, at 5 weeks post-partum I can't imagine you being able to go more than 3 or 4 hours without feeding or expressing for comfort at least. Plus your supply can be impacted from going so long. Seeing as your DD will be so close, finding a way to feed her twice at least in 8 hours would be a good idea. I am positive that everyone will understand your need to feed a 5 week old baby.
Thanks everyone, in the end she stayed with me until 1.30pm, and my husband took her back to MIL place, she wasn't due for a feed until 4ish as i fed her just before she left. I expressed just before we left for the wedding, she drank her bottles perfectly and there ended up only being about 60mls left of what i expressed for her. (i ended up sendng 500ml) i rang between wedding and reception and she had fed beautifully from bottle and was sound asleep so i went and expressed at 7pm ( i had my pump with me just in case) we got home at 12pm from wedding she was sound asleep and had fed at at 11ish so i expressed a bit more and she woke up at 2.30 for a feed.
I had sent the milk in storage bottles and MIL just warmed small amounts at a time to minimise wastage. Thanks for everyone's advice and replies. Much appreciated
