Unhappy GRR.. what am i doing wrong? DD wont eat for me!!!

So i started DD o solids around the 4 month mark, she wouldnt really eat it for me so i wasnt doing it as often as i maybe should have!!
She spends every second day with the ILs for about 5 hours and they feed her (sometimes even twice) yesterday they even told me that she polished off a bowl of rice cereal (mixed with some rafferties fruit pouch) and then made her another one and she ate that too.then when i went to pick her up they were feeding her again, and she was eating really well, opeing her mouth, gettiong all excited when the spoon was coming her way, didnt spit any out!!
but for ME.. she clamps her mouth shut and throws her head back.. and if i manage to get any in her mouth she spits it out.. im so frustrated,, and disheartened
    what am i doign wrong?
im scared ive messed it up and she'll never eat good for me

hun dont get frustrated or disheartened, she will eat, when shes hungry, she will sense if your upset or frustrated, if she wont eat then just leave it

Just relax hun, take a deep breath. You havent done anything wrong. As Olive said, she will eat whens shes hungry. I think shes too young to be not eating because you are feeding her, she wouldnt understand that. More than likley shes just not hungry. Try not to set the dinner time as a stressful time, its really not worth it.. (you need to try and save that stress for toddler hood! lol)

A tip though.. i found opening my mouth to show DD she would copy me. Maybe that would help?

Aww hun i totally agree with the girls, if she was seriously hungry she would take it.
DD1 started solids at about 5mths, she went well for say 2 weeks then went completely off food... i stopped it and just tried every couple of weeks, she didn't start eating proper amounts until 8mths.

One thing i did find worked better for A was if i fed her an hour after her milk feed, then her milk had had time to settle.

GL and try to relax, could you maybe give the baby led solids a go? i haven't done it myself but it might be worth a shot.

sounds like your IL's are in a bit of competition as to who can get her to eat the most
I agree with the others she is too young for you to have stuffed it all up (give yourself a break women) I also wonder if she is not hungry cause she has been overfed the previous day IYKWIM!

Now you could really freak the IL's out by trying BLS... Is she sitting up and can hold onto things with her hands? if so do some research and give it a try. I know my family freaked but once they saw what I was doing I even converted my SIL with her 4th baby. I did my own version of BLS in the sense that we gave DS (at your DD's age) steamed fingers of carrot, brocoli, sweet potato, avocado, banana, cruskits etc... anything really that you can make into fingers. You may find she may gag but that is a normal reflex and isn't the same as choking (try You-tube BLS there are some great videos which helped to convince my dp of doing it)

hun, you haven't done anything wrong, you haven't stuffed anything up. It sounds like she is getting overfed by the IL's.

I always have the motto, "food is for fun, until they are 1".. don't stress if she won't eat for you, the reality is she is probably just not hungry.

Perhaps you could ask your IL not to feed her any food while in their care, really at this young age, just once per day would be more than enough as she is only just learning what food is and how to eat, and that once per day could be when you can feed her

I would highly recommend BLS as other have suggested too

    Thanks ladies,
yeh im kin dof doing BLS (im doing both.. probably breaking the rules LOL) but i do give her baby food too, ive tried making my own purees but she wont eat them.. but she eats the brought stuff
she's only just starting to be able to sit up really well by herself, so ill start giving er more BLS and see how we go.
I know i shouldnt get frustrated coz she feels it, but its soo hard when i see how well she eats up there but wont do it for me.

mate. FWIW DS wouldn't let me feed him for ages....we did BLS during that day and any food that needed spooning in had to wait until DH was home.
    He's right now though.

Ruddy hell though...my DS wouldn't eat that much in a day!
