Reassured by our good day yesterday my little one has thrown me again! She's been demanding to be fed every hour today. There is a pattern: play (5-10 mins), feed (15-20 mins) and sleep (20-30 mins). Of course this is producing the green poos. To top it off she is fussing when on, pulling, scratching, releasing and frantically re-attaching. I tried distracting her to try and extend the feeds out to at least 1.5 hours but haven't been successful. Any ideas?
(so glad I found this forum yesterday!)
no ideas but my three week old son does the exact same thing. He was a large baby when he was born and 2 weeks late so maybe they just are hungrier? its very tiring though! I am now mixed feeding with formula as I can't keep up with him, it has helped a bit but every afternoon from about 2 pm until 9pm he wants to feed constantly!
How old is your LO? This kind of feeding is quite normal at different periods. Usually it will preceed a growth spurt or developmental leap. She could have a sore tummy (the act of sucking eases thepain, and thus they keep suckling even if not technically hungry), she could be teething, she could be bored, over stimulated or tired and seeking comfort, or she could just be having a plain ol' "need my mummy" day!
What is the weather like where you are today? Remember that breastmilk provides both the food and hydration in her world, so if it is hot, or she is hot, she may be drinking purely out of thirst.
Does she suffer from reflux or have you introduced any solids into her diet? (Again, hard to say without knowing how old she is!)
Just go with the flow for now, if she gets particularly fussy, try burping her, get up and change her nappy, take her into a new envirnment and try to distract her like that for a little while - mirrors are awesome for this, as is things like peekaboo and dancing and singing around the house with her.
Hope that helps a little! If you find you are getting a bit over it though, pop her in teh pram or in a sling and go for walk outside and clear your head - she just may nod off for longer than 20 mins
6 weeks old today so probably her growth spurt, but it caused her gas and green pops to reappear despite block feeding. Weather-wise fine so easy to take her for walks, but once summer hits properly that won't be an option. Sling: waiting for another in the mail b/c she hates the bjorn with a passion (even when attempting it while calm). She likes watching me when in bouncer so I need to move her around the house to watch me do stuff (and have decent showers!). On a positive, the sleep settling technique worked and she had naps, but only 45 mins max in morning. I'll try to push her out to 1.5-2 hrs today to try and avoid the gas pain.
A Hugabub is what I'm waiting for. She loves being close during wonder weeks, so getting prepared for the next one and growth spurts! Seems to be in a better pattern today. Fingers crossed and thanks for listening.
