So, who is eligible to use milk bank milk?

Unfortunately I will never be able to exclusively breastfeed. Both of my babies have had to be mix fed from about 5 days of age. I have hypoplasia (or tubular hypoplastic breast syndrome) a condition where not enough milk producing breast tissue developed at puberty.
Even with the use of motilium and additional pumping after feeds to stimulate supply my bub was only getting an average of 30mls per breastfeed. This was measured by weighing bub directly before and after breastfeeds on babyscales and the difference in grams is the amount of ml's of milk they have taken.

So, I'm just thinking about this in the case of whether we have a #3. Would someone like me and my baby be eligible to use donated milk from our local bank so that bub could be exclusively fed with breastmilk?

Just wanted to add I realise prems and sick babies etc get preference and I would only consider this option if the bank had a plentiful supply.

Hey Lil Monyets, nice name change

I don't know who is eligible to use milk bank milk, but I don't think the problem is supply, but more so storage facilities & funding for pasteurisation etc; in that, it costs money to handle the milk, and that is limited, ITMS.

If you didn't mind it not being screened, you could go through Eats on Feet on FB? Or hook up with a donor who didn't mind haveing some BT done?

But it couldn't hurt to call or even email the milk bank & ask...

Hi Fleur, thanks for your reply. That all makes sense.

Unfortunately DH is a bit funny about things and would only be comfortable giving bub someone elses milk as long as it was professionally pasteurised. Hence why I'd have to seek it from the milk bank.

(And also just wanted to say thanks so much for your generous offer a couple a few months back BTW it was very lovely of you to offer )
