Medela Freestyle Breast Pump

Hi all,

I want to get a breast pump this time round (borrowed a Medela swing off a friend last time). I will be going back to work around 4-6months and I need a pump that travels easily, that's light and compact. I was looking at the Medela Freestyle pump. It's around $500 and it looks as though it does everything I need it to do.

Looking for mums who have used this particular one for feedback. Or any other type of breast pump you could recommend for return to work/traveling mums

I bought a Unimom pump off Ebay. It's not huge but not that compact but it's hospital grade double pump and really easy to use. It was about $140. It need main power.

I used the Medela swing and it worked well - the model down from the freestyle - used both battery (lithium rechargeable ones were the best for this) and mains power. I am eyeing off the freestyle just for the double pumping option for the next one - just having trouble with the price atm

I'm a full time user of the freestyle including at work. It's really light and has everything you need to make pumping on the go really easy. The storage box with the ice pack is so handy. I go hands free by doing my bra up around the flange. I find it easier than the handsfree kit provided. I am lucky and have my own office so I express at my desk and usually tend to phone calls or emails whilst expressing.

I hope you find it just as handy as I have.

I'm struggling with the price, but I'm hoping the benefits outweigh the price and I get some long term use out of it.

I know its not a medela but I have an Avent Isus IQ and it can be run off batteries. About $170-200 RRP.

I will need it for mostly when I am back at work (4 months or so) and also want to express extra for DS to have some EBM. Once I'm back at work there is a good chance I'll be traveling at least one a week.

Might research the Medela Swing though..

I didn't even know Avent made pumps! I use avent products (bottles, sterilizer etc) so will check out their website too!

Yes i have the freestyle.. Using it right now lol! It's awesome!! Highly recommended I use it 8 times a day..

ETA: It is noisy. If you are using it at work, may not be ideal.. That's the only down fall I can think of.

To me the biggest difference between the swing and the freestyle is the ability to double pump. If you don't think double pumping is your thing the swing would be cheaper. I'm a fan of double pumping as it is more time efficient. Both pumps are small enough to travel. From what I gathered from ebay prior to purchasing the freestyle, the re-sale value is reasonably high for the freestyle. I got mine from an online pharmacy through ebay for about $500 when baby buntings were selling for about $650.
