Mixing EBM & Formula.. Help please I have gastro!

I have gastro & Im exhausted. I got DH to buy some formula & I will express as much as I can but will need to top up 4wk old DD... I usually have a great supply but have noticed today I don't really have much which is why we bought formula.
So do I make up formula & then add it to EBM, so if she normally had 120ml it would be 60ml & 60ml or just try to give her EMB btl & then formula bottle...

It's hard enough having a 4 week old let alone with gastro!!

Just make sure you keep expressing to keep your supply up!

Oh you poor thing! That's really awful. Are you usually expressing or breastfeeding? (sorry, not sure abuot your situation)
If expressing then being stressed/ill might affect your letdown.
Make sure you're staying hydrated and get as much rest as possible. I'm sorry, I have no idea about mixing. I would probably give EBM first then formula if required, but I've not actually done it before. You could always try calling the ABA for advice -1800 686 2 686

Thanks ladies.. I actually do both, express & B/F. I b/f during the day & give bottle EBM through the night so I know her tummy is full & it's so much quicker as she can be on the boob for up to an hour... I will try and give ABA a call. thanks

Hey honey, Sorry you have gastro that is really hard... If it were me I would just let her nurse as often as she can and make sure you get as much fluids as you can. See the GP and see if you can get some tablets called Ondansetron. they disolve on your tongue and will stop vomiting. If you think that bubba needs formula I personally would go with a goats milk formula and just give her small amounts after she has had her EBM. Is there a reason why you are giving her EBM rather than just letting her feed? It is probably pretty hard to feed her when you are feeling sick but she will get more from you than what she would if you are expressing. Don't be fearful of her being near you when you are sick as your milk will provide her with the best immunity you could give her.

My advice would be to give DD the ebm before the formula, definately don't mix them together... otherwise you risk having to tip ebm down the sink if DD doesn't finish the bottle.

Can you just take her to bed with you and let her nurse away? Might be easiest all round

You breastfeeding bub will also give her antibodies to fight off the gastro if she has it. I'd feed her in bed and then get DH to settle her if necessary.

It's rotten to have gastro when you have such a young baby. Many mothers feel like they won't have enough milk. but, interestingly, mothers make milk when they are sick the same as any other time - but when you are so sick it makes you see things differently. Have you got some-one to help you there and take care of your baby? You will really need the support. If you can manage it, keep breastfeeding - you will have enough milk. It is not the sickness that will reduce your milk supply, but the formula filling your baby so he doesn't need to feed enough. Your body is already making antibodies to protect your baby from getting the same illness you have. (These live cells can be detected by researchers in human milk even before the mum knows she is sick) Formula doesn't have these cells to protect your baby.
