    Is this normal?

    Hi ladies (and gents)
My 14 week old feeds from about 4pm til when she falls asleep (on and off never more then 30mins break) and has done this since she started sleeping though at 5.5 weeks (by sleeping through i mean 9-12 hrs a night she started the 5-6 hours sleeping through at 4 weeks).
We were doing formual top ups until 7 weeks and she was even doing the feeding frenzy with formula top ups.
During the day she feeds every 1.5-2 hours, and has since last monday reduced day time sleeping.

Is this normal? will it end? should i consider solids?

She's cluster feeding in the evening to fill her enough to get through the long overnight break (congrats on that, by the way!)
Feeding that regularly during the day sounds very normal to me. DS fed at least 2-hourly during the day till 9-10 months. He cluster fed between 4-7 every evening till around 3 months (can't remember exactly when it ended). He never slept that long at once though, so it's working better for you!
They're all so different there's no way to know when her patterns will change - but be sure they will! I don't think there's any need to introduce solids. This is just the way feeding works for her.

exactly what marcellus said, totally normal.

better than normal, you sound like you have a happy baby that sleeps so well! good for you!!
you certainly dont need to consider solids!

also, reduced day sleeps at 14 weeks is also normal, bub is getting more alert and inquisitve and needs less sleep.
you've got it all under control! yay!

    Hi, TTC,

It would be useful to get a good picture of her weight gains since birth, but it doesn't sound like they are a concern.
Your baby is doing exactly what babies do. Completly normal. It is normal for babies to feed 8-12 times in 24 hours. It's normal to have cluster of feeds in the evening. That evening time is naturally our "chat, nibble and connect" time. Think about it - what were pre-dinner nibbles and drinks invented for? Because we wanted to connect with our favourite people, chat and nibble. That's just what your baby is doing. At that time of night he is a little bit tired and fractiousl And he just wants to hang out with his favourite girl (you!) As much as he is drinking in your milk - he is drinking in YOU.
Solids are recommended from around 6 mnths and absolutely NOT recommended under 4mnths. It's not solid food he needs - milk and mum is what he craves.

My DD was a cluster feeder from a very young age - almost straight out of hospital from memory. The advantage was that after all that furious cluster feeding of a late afternoon/evening, like your DD she'd sleep until morning! Don't tell anyone, they'll be jealous.

If everything is going fine and she is growing well and seems happy, I wouldn't think the formula top ups are necessary. It's just her knowing what she needs. My DD did stop, I can't remember what age, but it was definitely over by the time she did start on solids (after six months).
