Is it OK to delay solids until DS is 7 months

We are taking an overseas trip with DS in June - basically from his 6 month birthday until his 7 month birthday (note - he was 4 weeks early). I feel that it would be so much easier to delay solids until we return (assuming he expresses no interest in anything other than BM). It's a long haul flight so even if we are doing rice cereal, it would still be a bit of work. However, I don't want to do this if it's to the detriment of DS as I understand that after 6 months babies need iron & zinc that isn't in BM.

DD2 didnt start solids until she was 7.5 months old, she just wasnt interested.Your BM will be just fine, they dont actually NEED to eat ITMS, till they're 1.
i think the saying is food for fun until they're 1

I don't think it would be a problem. Maybe give him a go at some finger foods while you are away (BLS)? I was told the food is for fun until they are one too have an awesome time on your trip x

yeah you'll be fine. Its much easier to start solids when they are ready & able to feed themselves. The whole BLS thing is much easier (and cleaner!) then spooning them slop.

Yeah, as the others have said, you'll be fine. We are doing BLS and went away overseas when DD was 7 months and she didn't really eat much when we were away and she got a terrible cold so just wanted to breast feed all the time.

Food before one is just for fun!

DS1 started at 6 months and took it well for 10 days then refused!! By time he actually started again was 8 months, not a problem at all as food is fun until there 1 anyway.

I went OS with my DS when he was 7-8 months old. I gave him a rusk every now and again (it was good, distracting entertainment rather than food, really), or a taste of what I was eating (if it was appropriate). He still didn’t really take to solids until he was 10 or so months old. You (and he) will be fine. And good luck with the flights.

I offered DD solid food from 6 mths but she wasn't really interested until about 7 1/2 months. Have you had a look at the BLS info? You could always just ty offering him little bits of what you have while you're travelling and not worry then whether he takes it or not.

It certainly shouldn't hurt him to delay, especially given he was a little bit early.

We started ours on solids at 7 months but he wasn't all that keen until very recently. Food was just some neat yummy tasting thing, now he's 9 months he'll happily shovel anything into his mouth he can lay his hands on. Who needs spoons?
