I was wondering, maybe other have had experiences with this. I had one of my nipples pierced when I was younger, and removed it about 3 years ago. Now I'm trying to conceive, it just occurred to me whether or not having a pierced nipple affects whether you can breastfeed out of that breast anymore? Does anyone know? or has anyone ever had their nipples pierced (then removed later - and those who had, would know you get a bit of a deformed nipple aftewards), and what was breastfeeding like with that nipple.
I'm going to the doctor for my antenatal blood tests on the weekend, but would like to know other peoples experience with piercings.
I had my nipple pierced when I was younger and have also since removed it. It caused no problems at all for me breastfeeding! It actually helped! Turns out I have flat nipples but the one that was pierced stuck out a bit more so this was the favoured side! Probably a good thing in my case as we had heaps of attachment issues due to large breasts, flat nipples and ds had a really bad tongue tie when he was born. (his tongue was visibly forked)
I removed mine while I was pregnant with DD1, I have not had any problems breastfeeding. While expressing though I have noticed that milk comes out the sides (the piercing holes).
I've had both mine done twice, and then removed the jewellery when the hole refused to heal - so I've got more scarring than most - my son still feeds like a champ so I really wouldn't worry about it!!
Thank goodness! I might still check with the doctor, but I've got a scar on each side of my nipple, and I can still kinda feel with the hole used to be through my nipple - maybe I might be able to do tricks with my breast milk
