What do you love about breastfeeding?

My nipples are finally healing and the last 24 hours I have started to actually enjoy the process
Just wanted to hear what all you mammas love about bfing your babies?
It's a powerful feeling watching your baby feeding off what you can supply . It really is a special time.

My DS is so enquisitive so has never been a big cuddlier - always wanted to be checking out he world - but when we feed it is our special time and I get cuddles from him then. I love it. And I love when he sometimes dozes of during a feed and I can just him and listen to him breathe so contently!

My older daughter has just weaned and the biggest thing I miss is the security and comfort it brought me to know that she was extra protected from illness (was sick twice in the last 3yrs, both mild colds), not susceptable to constipation (never has been constipated in her 3yrs) and knowing even on her most fussiest days with foods she was having a nutrient rich injection.

The other thing I loved was the ease at which I could put her to sleep although luckily, it is just as smooth now but I think that is because she was over 3 when she weaned.

I love that my DD is getting more and more of her nutrition from me and not being comped so much with formula.

I love it when she looks up at me and smiles and then gets back to the serious business of feeding, often with one eyebrow raised.

It cracks me up when she decides to go hunting for a better position and does little test sucks until she is where she wants to be (and when wants a drink right NOW but is cuddling with DH and gives his neck tickly little vampire sucks)

My very favourite though is what she is doing right now - one arm on either side of my neck, her head nestled against my chin having a post feed cuddle. Never want it to end.

Yep to everything Jellyfish said (except the weaning).

I also love when baby is feeding and you share a joke over something, and they want to giggle but don't want to stop feeding so give you this grin while they are still attached.

Totally love that HotI, cute side grin. And I love when he's happy getting the milk he wanted and looks at me with that happy content look. And the fact that whatever he's upset about, booby can fix it. I haven't thought about weaning, have no plans anymore of stopping, will probably go until he self weans. I love it so much. One on one mum and bub time.

I love how I can cure any hurt easily.

How I can make them feel safe.

How easy it is to get a baby to sleep.

That cute little thing when they first attach and their eyes roll back.

Knowing that I always have that up my sleeve when they're sick.

Also yep to Jellyfish! I loved that DD had never once been sick aside from teething, and then he began to wean, and she got an awful cold, and an awful nappy rash from the antibiotics. I loved that I felt confident and informed enough to delay her vaccinations until she was weaning because of the immunity I gave her

I loved the big smiles I'd get while she fed.

I loved the greedy 'mmm' sound she'd make when she was littler while she drank.

I loved as she got older she learned to sign for milk and would crawl up to me and ask for it with big expectant eyes.

I love that even though I've no milk left, every morning she will sign for milk as soon as she opens her eyes It gives her so much comfort when she's sad or hurt.

I loved BFing her in public. I honestly would feel like a goddess, sitting down wherever and cuddling her close to my breast as she ate And when people would think I was simply cuddling her, and then realise she was feeding

So much has already been mentioned...

I love how quickly and easily a feed can turn DD from almost throwing a tantrum to crawling off happily to play.

I love how it gives me a chance to just sit and be with my baby in amongst our busy days.

I love, love, love how easy it is to just feed DD to sleep and resettle her through the night. So quick, neither of us really wake up properly

I love how DD nuzzles and starts patting my bbs when she wants a feed

I love the smell of her breath after a feed

I love all those extra benefits... DD has never been severely sick, just a slight sniffle. Even though she's only just starting to eat more solids now at 14 months, I've never worried about whether she's receiving all the nutrients she needs - I know she is from my milk.

I love that a feed gives me my baby back for a few moments when she is growing up so very quickly before my eyes.

When she's so hungry she sucks my belly and snorts on her way to bbs!

When her eyes roll back as she gets the good stuff.

Her new game of coming off, grinning, re-latching and repeating endlessly (though, ouch!).

She's never really used BF for comfort, but the one that breaks my heart is after a feed - when she's lying in my arms cooing and staring at me with big, smiling eyes. What a feeling!

I have always loved trying to make my babies smile or laugh while they feed. It's the cutest / happiest smile in the world and they are just between us xx

I got my first smile from DS while feeding.
Reading your stories makes me smile and brings back so many memories (I weaned nearly 2 yrs ago)
They way DS would look into my eyes with such trust... amazing!!

I cant put it into words, but I just love everything about it.

But you what, with DD1 I fought a massive battle when it came to breastfeeding. I stuck it out and I have never been so proud of my determination. Breastfeeding I know is best or my babies, but also everytime I feed my babies, I am reminded at how strong I am, and it encourages me in every step I take, that we take as a family.

I love feeding in the shower ... being warm and clean and relaxed and massaged and feeding ... just bliss.

I love knowing that through no goodness/hardwork/studying/etc of myself, my body is designed to do this one thing perfectly and it's exactly right for my son, and no matter what else is going well or poorly, this one thing I can do to give him exactly what he needs. This is just the way God designed it, and for my son and me, it just works perfectly.

I love it when he has been starving and screaming (that's not the bit I like!) and I pop him on, he's almost instantly calm - and then once he's fed, he kind of looks up and realises I'm there! And he's happy to see me

Her post-feed milk-mouth smiles and garbling chit-chat while still at my boob.

Feeling proud that her growth and development is sustained and propelled by my body.

The way she uses her hand as a windscreen wiper across my chest as she drinks

The way she reaches up and oh so carefully tries to touch parts of my face after a feed- she is focused and fascinated.

The fact that when DD was much newer and a similar thread was going around, I was struggling with BF and had to think about what I loved, and here I am now with too many things I love to list.

Yep totally agree. And the humming, or whatever sound you call it, whilst they are bf. It is a sound of contentment.

Even though I'm sick as a dog with a third round of mastitis and it hurts to put her on and she's not smiling completely properly, when she sees that boob and knows her position her eyes light up and her little mouth starts to do the open sucking motion. Right now she has learnt she can make a hummm noise while feeding. Too cute! Takes gone of the pain away
