just take some fresh veggies - carrots, pumpkin, potato and when you've cooked them, mash! Else I find the "rafferties garden" stuff (in foil pouches @ shops) very good for travelling ...

    Hi,
The weather will be great this weekend - a lovely time to get away.
What does your daughter usually eat? She can eat any food that you or the family would normally eat - sandwiches, fruit, vegetables, meat. Anything. It should be no drama.

Thanks Guys, I think I do need to start giving him the same food that we eat instead of doing a seperate meal for him....I am cooking vegie soups and stewed crumbles and things every few days for him.

I'd never really thought of just giving him a sandwich for lunch, but I guess that would be fine, I could do avocado and ham? Or cream cheese and grated carrot?
    Good idea

I think we will be having lots of BBQ's, so I might do him some chicken kebabs and hamburgers.

(and I think I will be sneaking in some raffertys gardens!)

I wish he wasn't allergic to banana, that would make life much easier! (It makes him vomit, even things like Pear and Banana Farex).

Thanks, I was starting to think I was going to have to pack my Bamix and soup pot!

Hey yea absolutely you could start giving him the same foods as you, makes it so much easier! Especially now he can have the dairy in food.

Sandwichs definitely and yoghurt, another great travel food is avocado. Just take the whole one with the kinife and sandwich bag, you just mash it a little with the spoon in the actual skin and if only one half gets eaten you can put the rest back in the sandwich bag for next time.

Just one thing to remember with hamburgers is babies under 12months can't have egg white so if I make rissoles I just make up the batch and then seperate his to add the egg and just use egg yolk in his. They are great to put carrot, zucchini and other vegies you like too. I do this with ds1 to hide zucchini, he doesn't usually eat green vegies unless they are mixed through stuff.

You could also do things like shepherds pie, risottos, spaghetti bolognaise (you could just break up spaghetti small or use the packets of baby pasta in the baby section or use a smaller type of pasta like shells.

I think it was around this age with ds1 that I would give him exactly what we were having and just cut things up really small. He would have a roast for example just small pieces we didn't do bls so we would still feed him with a fork. At your ds's age he will mostlikely be able to handle more than puree, it is also really good and important for his speech development as it gets his jaw working.

    Have a wonderful holiday!!

avocado on bread was always a hit with DD at that age! most of the time they just suck the avvy off anyway LOL!

otherwise, like another poster mentioned just bring up some sweet potato/pumpkin/apples etc etc and mash away.

rafferty's is also a BIG hit here...even now that DD is 2 years old LOL!

i vote with Barb though and reckon this could be a lovely opportunity to transition bubs towards sharing the foods you guys eat! we did this with DD (about 10 months too) when we travelled interstate...we arrived late-ish one night and headed to a thai restaurant. ordered some coconut rice for her, but in the end she screamed blue murder until we gave her our chilli bean curd LOL! never looked back!

Jas, the latest food guidelines suggest that in families without a high allergy risk, it is best not to avoid "high allergy" foods beyond the introduction of solids at 6 months. So eggs are actually ok at that age unless there is a known allergy, or a family history of allergy (in which case it is usually still recommended that it be given early, but with medical supervision).

The only things really that are not appropriate under 12 months are honey (risk of botulism) and whole nuts (for the choking risk).

Eggs are super convenient for for babies - scrambled eggs done in the microwave are almost instant food for starving (read sqawking!) mouths. I feed my 9 month old lots of egg foods with absolutely no dramas - she loves it!

And I really would feed your baby whatever you're having. Its so much easier!

    Have a great trip!

There's a few supermarkets in Lakes, so you should be able to find something in a pinch anyway. Have fun!

Take some watermelon if it is going to be hot as this will cool down, feed and water at the same time in a hurry while you are getting the food ready. My youngest hasn't got any teeth and is not one yet but still eats everything we do (unless it is fish with small bones etc). Sweet potato (or any other veg) roasted and then cooled makes a great finger food and can be prepared in advance.

    Thanks everyone, we survived beautifully!

He enjoyed Chicken Kebabs, Sausages, Spag Bol,a few too many hot chips than I would like to admit, sweet potato, pumpkin, watermelon, ice cream, and apples and the list goes on!! We were staying with about 20 other family members, so he got fed bits and pieces from everyone!!! and he LOVED it.
